Tammy Slaton Drops 115 Pounds — Near Death Event on ‘1000-lb Sisters’ Finally Motivates Her

Tammy Slaton made strides in her journey to health and happiness which may surprise 1000-Lb Sisters viewers. But it all comes after some bad choices and a life-and-death moment. Is she finally ready to start dropping weight?

Tammy Slaton on a Perilous Van Ride

Tammy Slaton is ready to go back to rehab after an intervention. Before, she sought treatment for food addiction and mental health concerns. A talk with Dr. Eric Smith helped her see the potential for her life if she can make her mental health a priority.

On the season-ending episode, Tammy claims she is done partying and drinking. Chris Combs is more than happy to take his sister back to rehab so that she can get started. But, a six-hour journey from Kentucky to Ohio proves to be almost fatal for the TLC star.

Tammy comments that she’s really tired and that worries Chris. This goes down on 1000-Lb Sisters Season 3 Episode 12 Never Say Never. In the minivan on the way to rehab, her brother asks what’s her oxygen level. And she says it’s 65.

According to the Mayo Clinic, 75-100 is normal. Below that, you’re in Hypoxemia (low oxygen in the blood). Next, Chris Combs jumps into big brother mode. Because he knows that she is not getting enough oxygen.

He calls the rehab facility, and they tell him to keep her hooked up to her BiPap machine for the rest of the ride. It helps pump O2 into her lungs. Chris asks if she is okay, and she says, “I’m Gucci.”

Finally, he gets her to the rehab center. After check-in, he tells Tammy goodbye and heads home. But Tammy has some final words. She views it’s the last he’ll see her “at this size”. And she adds “Bye, b***hes.”

A Turn for the Worse on 1000-Lb Sisters

On 1000-lb Sisters, Tammy Slaton may have decided too late to go back to rehab. The facility calls Chris the next day to tell him she took a turn for the worse. They tell him they sent her to the hospital because she stopped breathing.

Amanda Halterman says that Tammy’s lungs gave up, and her body’s shutting down. So, Amanda says that they faced making funeral arrangements. A TLC caption confirms Tammy was sent to ICU. And that she’s in “a medically induced coma” and a ventilator.

Amy Slaton adds it was scary knowing she couldn’t do anything to help her sister. After that, Chris says the health care team didn’t know if she was going to make it through the night or even the next hour.

On the 1000-lb Sisters season-ending episode, Chris says they all stayed by her side for four days. His relief is palpable as he says Tammy finally woke up.

Tammy Must Lose Pounds to Save Her Life

Tammy Slaton is still recovering from her near-death experience. Chris says that when she woke up from her medically-induced coma, she told them that she loves them and wants to go home.

The ICU also installed a tracheostomy to feed oxygen directly into her lungs. But instead of Tammy going home, she went back to the rehab facility to try and get healthy. The big news is that Tammy lost 115 pounds in one month.

Also, Amy Slaton says that she and Gage Halterman call Tammy all the time to check in and talk. She brushes back tears, saying that her sister is okay and has her life. So, will Tammy Slaton lose enough to finally get gastric surgery?
