Tammy Slaton at Rock Bottom – Finally Gets Help

Tammy Slaton finally saw the light and decided to get help. Dr. Eric Smith came to Kentucky for an intervention. They had a deep talk and she opened up about her struggles. She revealed her depression had a deep hold on her.

Then, she said she was at the point where she wanted to get help. So, Dr. Smith was ready to make that happen. The next step was to get Tammy back into rehab. After their in-person talk, she had a call with the doctor that confirmed she was ready for a change.

So, the weight loss doc of course supported her decision. Then, he made arrangements and told her the rehab facility would welcome her back with open arms. Now, they just needed to get Tammy Slaton there. But things go perilously wrong on 1000-lb Sisters.

The Road to Rehab is Rocky

On the season-ending episode, Chris Combs drives Tammy Slaton to rehab. They head Northeast to the facility in Ohio. But, on the drive there, she began to have problems with her oxygen levels.

So, Chris pulled over and helped Tammy get her BiPAP machine on her face. Then, she got the mask over her nose, she began to feel a lot better. After a few hours of travel, Chris pulled up at the facility.

Next, he dropped Tammy off and wished her luck. And she seemed committed to the process. She told her brother he wouldn’t see her at that size again. She seemed upbeat and ready to really give it a try.

But shortly after she arrived at rehab, they had to rush Tammy Slaton to the hospital. As seen on 1000-lb Sisters, Season 3, Episode 11, it was a life-or-death ordeal.

The rehab facility told Chris Combs that Tammy “took a turn” and things got worse. Then, they told him on the ambulance ride to the hospital, Tammy “quit” breathing.

That scared Amanda Halterman who said she started thinking about planning Tammy Slaton’s funeral. After reviving her, they placed Tammy in the ICU. They had to put her in a “medically induced coma” and a ventilator to save her life.

All this scared Amy Slaton. Because she didn’t feel like she could do anything to help her sister. Amanda fought back tears as she said Tammy “waited too long” to get help.

Plus, Chris said the hospital staff told him she might not survive the night. The family worried as it was an hour-by-hour ordeal to see if she’d survive. So, Chris held a bedside vigil at the hospital.

Then after four days, Tammy Slaton finally woke up. In real-time, she remains in a rehab facility with her tracheostomy in place. But on the plus side, she survived the ordeal.
