‘Love After Lockup’ Interview: Rachel Says She’s ‘Walmart Version’ of this Celebrity
Love After Lockup cast member Rachel chatted with Soap Dirt recently and was refreshing, funny, and self-deprecating about her journey so far on the WEtv show – and admitted she knows all about her resemblance to one particular celebrity. In fact, Rachel said she gets comparisons to two funny ladies and also talked about Doug, bologna, and their incredible height disparity. Check it out.
Rachel Had to “Reintroduce” Doug to Society on Love After Lockup
We asked Rachel whether she had to teach Doug about how the world works since he’d been behind bars so long. Here’s what she said.
Rachel: I have to tell him – we don’t do that. Here’s an app, here’s a phone. They make machines for such and such. It was reintroducing him back into society and new technology. It was fun and it was funny.
SD: What are some thing Doug embraced?
Rachel: He got into Amazon – ordering things online. He used to make fun of me for ordering groceries. He’s like – that’s straight lazy. And now he’s all about it. Conveniences and what not.
SD: What else was new for your husband that we may not see on Love After Lockup?
Rachel: He never had a drivers license. Doug had to get a road test. He had to do all these big grown up things.
Doug’s Wife Says She’s the Walmart Version of a Certain Celebrity
We also had to ask the diminutive Love After Lockup wife about all the comparisons to her and a certain Saturday Night Live alum.
Rachel: Oh yeah, I absolutely know about that. I’m like the Walmart version of Rachel Dratch. Or the WISH version. I’ve been told that my whole life. Her and Amy Poehler.
You can tell that these comparisons are funny to Rachel because she brushes off the jokes. And Rachel even reposts some of the funnier memes on her social media pages and seems utterly unbothered by WEtv reality fans poking fun at her.
Is Doug Really Controlling & What About the Bologna We See on Love After Lockup?
We queried Rachel about what looks like Doug trying to exert control even before he got out of prison on parole. And we wanted to know if she’d get sick of him acting like that.
Rachel: It didn’t really bother me. TV just showed that [what they wanted]. There was mutual respect that wasn’t seen on [Love After Lockup]. We have ups and downs. So stay tuned.
We also wanted to know about the bologna and what else Doug likes to eat. So, we asked if his palate’s expanded.
Rachel: You’d be surprised – it has expanded to hot dogs. We go through a lot of hot dogs. He also gets steaks and burgers. But he has a severe dairy allergy. I could put dairy on his skin and he would have an anaphylactic thing. Bologna is a nostalgic thing since he grew up in poverty.

We also asked if her hubby ever cooks like in the scenes we’ve seen on Love After Lockup?
Rachel: He only knows how to cook in the microwave. He was dead set on how to boil an egg in the microwave and ended up exploding a dozen eggs. Doug loves gas station food and snacks. He still buys prison food like yellow bag coffee.

We saw a bit of this on Love After Lockup, but wanted to know, given their big height difference, if he had any trouble fitting into his honey’s home.
Rachel: Yes absolutely. They [WEtv] showed the master bathroom, but he can’t use it. The bar for the shower door is too low. Doug doesn’t like the toilet. He’s afraid he can’t fit his whole self onto it to take a dump in it. He wants new toilet seats. The car for sure. But he gets things I can’t reach and dusts things I haven’t dusted in years.
For now on Love After Lockup, it seems like there more than just a height difference plaguing Rachel and new hubby Doug as he just doesn’t want to follow his parole rules. It looks like he might not last on the outside. So, just keep watching new episodes Friday nights at 9 pm EST.
