Kate Plus 8: Reality Ship Sailed for Kate Gosselin?

This surprise reveal, made by Kate Gosselin, happened in front of a judge in a courtroom. Reportedly, 44-year-old mom of eight dropped the bombshell that TLC terminated her contract. So, it looks like the reality show gravy train’s over for the Kate Plus 8 mom.

Kate Gosselin appeared in court a few weeks ago for a contempt charge. The mom of many defied a judge’s order and had to answer for it. Apparently, she and TLC production knew her kids couldn’t appear on TV without Jon Gosselin’s approval. So, the judge banned them from taping.

So, while the judge banned her from using her minor children for television, she had an option to obtain work permits for the kids. With those in hand, TLC could film Kate Gosselin and the kids. However, there’s a catch.

Because, she needed Jon to sign off on those permits as well. Fans of the Kate Plus 8 family know Jon’s against his kids growing up in the fishbowl of reality TV. So, he wouldn’t be game to sign. But, did that stop her or TLC production? No.

Jon Gosselin Keeps Watchful Eye

Jon already said he wouldn’t allow his minor children to appear on the TLC docuseries. Also, he shared his reasoning. Because, he wants the children to have a normal childhood. But, apparently even a court order didn’t stop the Kate Plus 8 mama. She defied the court order and allowed cameras to film her kids for a TLC special.

And, not just one, but four of the Gosselin minor kids appeared on camera despite the judge’s order. TLC filmed Leah Gosselin, Alexis Gosselin, Aaden Gosselin, and Joel Gosselin. These four kids are part of the Gosselin sextuplets, who are now 15-years-old.

It was the birth of those sextuplets that started Kate Gosselin on her road to fame. But first, the original show included everyone, Jon and Kate Plus 8. So, the court summoned her to answer for defying the order, holding her in contempt.

Kate Plus 8 Now Just a Part of TLC History

Then, when Jon’s divorce from his TLC wife was finalized, she began filming as a single mother in her follow-up series Kate Plus 8. But, Jon fought to block her from using their kids on her show. In the sequence filmed during the ban, two of the sextuplets did not appear, but she and Jon’s older twin girls did.

But the twins, Mady and Cara Gosselin, are now 19-years-old. As adults, they can decide for themselves on whether to film. The other two members of the Gosselin sextuplets live with their dad Jon. He has full custody of Hannah Gosselin and Collin Gosselin. So, they didn’t appear on camera with their mother.

There’s no specifics released by Kate Gosselin or TLC about why she was fired. But, the context is clear. Without being able to use her kids for filming, she’s Kate plus no one. Her last semi-solo spinoff, Kate Plus Date, had dismal ratings.

So, it seems a long shot that TLC would keep her on contract without all the kids that made Kate Gosselin famous in the first place.
