‘My 600-Lb Life’ Exclusive: Dr. Now NOT Fired from TLC Show — Confirmed by Production

My 600-Lb Life rumors about Dr. Younan Nowzaradan‘s firing are false, according to the President of the company that makes the show. One site reported Dr. Now as let go from the show, alleging the info came from a former cast member.

But we went looking for confirmation, and our source says it’s not true. And he’s in a position to know better than anyone else — including ex-cast.

Source Alleges “Lawsuits Piling Up” — Dr. Nowzaradan Fired from My 600-Lb Life?

There’s a story spreading that Dr. Nowzaradan was fired from the TLC show. This allegation was made by a website saying their info came from a former cast member — but they do not name that source.

They cited lawsuits “piling up” from ex-cast members as part of why they say Dr. Now was allegedly axed. They also said that his insurance wouldn’t cover him anymore. We dug in to determine if Dr. Now’s facing big legal problems.

It turns out he is not. First, all doctors and surgeons face civil suits if their patients are unsatisfied. And Dr. Now’s patients come to him in bad shape, often with just years left to live because of their morbid obesity.

My 600-Lb Life: Dr. Younan Nowzaradan

There is only one open lawsuit against My 600-Lb Life star Dr. Nowzaradan. It’s a patient who had a lap band from another surgeon that failed. She went to Dr. Now to have it removed.

This woman isn’t a current or former cast member. There are no pending or active lawsuits against Dr. Now in the Texas judicial system filed by any ex-cast. The one open suit is not from someone that appeared on the TLC series.

And he remains in good standing with the TX medical board. There are, however, lawsuits filed against the production company that makes the show. And we obtained confirmation from the show’s production company that Dr. Now was not fired.

Production Company Rep Denies Dr. Now Firing

A quick background on the show. Megalomedia is the production company that created and films My 600-Lb Life. And it’s Discovery network (which owns TLC) that buys the show from the production company.

Megalomedia owns and produces a few shows that air or aired in the past on TLC, including Skin Tight, Cyberstalker, Quints by Surprise, and the one featuring Dr. Now and his patients.

The same company also did Shipping Wars and Heavy for A&E. In the UK — they produce Half Ton Mum, Half Ton Teen, and Half Ton Dad. And here’s why who created the show is such an essential piece of information…

Jonathan Nowzaradan is the founder and President of Megalomedia and the creator of My 600-Lb Life. And his dad is Dr. Now. So, we sought confirmation on whether or not the physician was fired — and that’s who we asked.

In addition to running the production company that tapes the show, his dad’s the star. And when we asked if his father was fired from My 600-Lb Life, he said it’s “not true”.

In addition to saying it’s untrue that Dr. Nowzaradan was fired, we got another important piece of info. Soap Dirt asked for confirmation that Dr. Now will be on the next season.

My 600-Lb Life Not Canceled? Dr. Nowzaradan’s Son Weighs in

Jonathan Nowzaradan told us, “We look forward to continuing to follow the journeys of Dr Nowzaradan and his patients.” So, that sure doesn’t sound like the show’s canceled. And it makes clear that the bariatric surgeon wasn’t fired.

While Dr. Now isn’t being sued individually by former cast members, there is an open lawsuit against the production company. Then, the Texas court consolidated those cases into one.

So, Megalomedia is currently dealing with one suit from various former My 600-Lb Life cast members or their family (where the cast member passed away).

Their attorneys convinced the court to dismiss specific allegations. Most notably those accusing them of fraud and negligent infliction of emotional distress. As of now, the trial date’s set for November 2022.

Also, this lawsuit is not breaking news. Individuals filed the suits in early 2020. The court consolidated them into one suit by May 2020.  And no additional cast member suits cropped up since then (as of this writing).

Meanwhile, we confirmed with a recent cast member that they began taping with them in early 2021 and continued for months for Season 10. So, they filmed the most recent season well after the suits commenced.

To summarize. It’s false that new cases are amassing. And according to a named reliable source, Dr. Now’s not fired. Last, the presumption that the show’s over because of these suits is unproven. They started filming a new season after these cases were filed.

We’ll update you when we have more information about the TLC show, another season, and any status changes. Dr. Nowzaradan is in good standing with the production company and the medical board.
