Doubling Down with the Derricos: Multiples Run in the Family
Everyone asks how Karen Derrico and Deon Derrico wound up having so many multiples. Before they had the quints, Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, Daician, and Daiten, who are now 7, they already had two single children and a set of twins at home. So, their family of six almost doubled overnight with the birth of the three girls and two boys.
It turns out that both Karen and Deon of Doubling Down with the Derricos have multiples in their families. On Karen’s side, her mother’s side had four sets of twins, and her father’s side had two sets of triplets from one uncle. Deon’s mom miscarried triplets right before having him, and his great uncle had two births with twins.
Karen never used in vitro fertilization and all of the babies were conceived naturally. Thankfully, both Karen and her husband wanted to have a big family. After having the quints, Deon didn’t plan on having anymore at that point.

TLC’s Karen Derrico calls her quints from Doubling Down with the Derricos her miracle 5. In fact, she said if anyone ever says they wished they could see a miracle, she tells them to look at the quints. She says the quints were a 132,000,000 in 1 chance.
Karen describes the quints as smart, funny, energetic, empathetic, loyal, and loving Virgos. This Las Vegas family has things under control, and fans of Doubling Down with the Derricos constantly applaud their parenting.
49-year-old Deon Derrico and his 40-year-old wife do an amazing job keeping up with the children. In fact, they only recently chose to bring in outside help. Karen did struggle with the idea of bringing on a nanny, but it looks like Deon got her to warm up to the idea.
Doubling Down with the Derricos: Happy & Healthy Quints
Despite the fact that the quints came into this world at only two pounds, they are vibrant, happy, and healthy. They all have their unique personalities and aren’t afraid to speak up. The doctor, Dr. John Elliot, delivered the quints, and said their birth experience is unique and amazing.
Karen had to stay in Mesa, Arizona, to make sure she was safe while trying to keep the babies in until 32 weeks. Once she made it to that mark, they celebrated, and the babies decided they wanted to come. Unfortunately, Doubling Down with the Derricos star Deon couldn’t get a flight out of the Las Vegas airport in time and missed the birth.
Even though Deon couldn’t be there, Karen pulled through beautifully. And the babies were healthy and born into a loving family. Deon says he is forever grateful to the hospital and can truly say he loves it and the staff.
