Young and the Restless set leaks say Richard Burgi just signed a new deal to play Ashland Locke for another year. He initially came in for a short run, then extended to recurring, and now this update says he’ll be on contract for the next year. So, what does that mean?
Is Richard Burgi on Contract at Young and the Restless as Ashland Locke?
With a first episode airing March 11, 2021, news broke a couple of weeks prior that Richard Burgi would play the new role of Ashland Locke. Initially billed as a bad guy corporate villain, the “Locke Ness Monster” turned out to be more sweet than sour, as Soap Dirt’s noticed.

In fact, it was his wife, Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) who was the bad seed in their storyline on Young and the Restless. Richard Burgi was not initially on contract. His stint on the CBS soap was supposed to be recurring. And the cancer diagnosis seemed to put an expiration date on the role.
Burgi Signs One Year Deal Says CBS Insider
A source at CBS daytime leaked that Richard Burgi reportedly signed a brand-new one-year contract with Young and the Restless to keep playing Ashland Locke. That’s not too surprising since the role is popular with fans and they married the silver fox off to legacy offspring Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle).
Of course, there’s still the pesky issue of Ashland’s cancer. But a sign that the soap’s closing that down is the reveal that the tycoon’s getting an experimental treatment. No doubt, he’ll wind up cured like so many other Y&R characters like Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) who’ve recovered from cancer.
What’s Next for Ashland on Young and the Restless?
With another year reportedly in store for the character, what might the CBS sudser do with Ashland Locke? First, they need to address his health concern. From there, Burgi mentioned that he’d like to see Ash and Vikki make a baby. That seems a long shot — but you never know.
Meanwhile, the stage is set for Victoria and her husband to be a corporate power pair, starting with getting Chance Comm back under the Newman-Locke umbrella. There was some chatter that Burgi initially planned on just a short run on Young and the Restless. But if this leak is accurate, Ashland is here to stay (at least through 2022).
