‘Young and the Restless’: Is Ashland Locke Really Dying – Cancer Diagnosis Real?
Young and the Restless fans are asking is Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) really dying – or is there more to this story than we’ve been shown on the CBS soap? Given his whirlwind romance with Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and the merger of their companies, everything is in doubt right now.
Does Ashland Locke Really Have Cancer on Young and the Restless?
Y&R originally cast talented actor Richard Burgi for a short arc as Ashland Locke, a business man who’s not afraid to play dirty. Then, the writers slapped that horrible nickname on him – the Locke Ness Monster. However, we’ve yet to see Ashland do anything really monsterish. Instead, it’s his ex-wife, Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) who’s the real piece of work.
And now, there’s word that Young and the Restless extended the silver fox’s run as Ashland Locke. He’d signed on for nine and is almost at 50. So, while Y&R‘s writers have intended him to con the Newman – or drop dead of a fatal illness. They may have swerved. But why? It could be the surprising fan reaction to “Astoria” – Ashland’s romance with Victoria. No doubt, she needs some love in her life on Y&R.

Victoria’s choice in men has generally been dodgy. Of course, Young and the Restless pairing her with much-older Ashland seemed a little strange at first. And mostly like she wanted his company, not Ashland Locke himself. However, their chemistry has grown and suddenly, he’s about to get treatment. But up until that reveal, viewers doubted his cancer diagnosis. Yet, it could still be fake.
Could Ash Still be Faking his Illness on Y&R?
There are ways that Ashland Locke could continue to fake an illness on Young and the Restless. And then he could fake getting a cure. His doctor can’t really spill the beans to Victoria. So, if he is conning her, Ashland could keep up the charade. However, there have been scenes where he’s alone or her back is turned – and Ash suffers some breathing problems.
That points to him really having cancer on Young and the Restless. However, it also doesn’t sound like Ashland got a second opinion. So, with Burgi inking an extended contract, perhaps they’ll read it as a misdiagnosis. Or they could give him a full-blown cancer story with Victoria at Ashland Locke’s side throughout his ordeal.
Either way, they could keep Ashland around indefinitely on Young and the Restless. As it stands, they could also still make it a twist and he’s faking it. Instead of something fatal, the guy could have another lung problem that can be cleared up with treatments. So, he could get that done right under Victoria’s nose with her none the wiser thanks to doctor-patient confidentiality.
Will Victoria & Ashland Find True Love on Young and the Restless?
Now, both Ashland Locke and Vikki are saying the right things and seem to be falling hard for each other. And it looks like his illness sped up the timeline for their romance. But there’s also the fact that both are hard-nosed in business – and will pull out all the stops to win. Still, Vikki seemed sincere when she told her mom that she’s falling for the guy.
And Ashland seems smitten too on Young and the Restless. Only time will tell if Ashland Locke has truly fallen for Victoria and if his diagnosis is the real deal. But the Y&R writers gave themselves enough wiggle room where it could go either way. As of now, we’ve certainly not seen the devious and dastardly man that everyone talked about.
So, either his reputation was overblown or he’s waiting to pounce on Young and the Restless. Spoilers wonder if Ashland plans to marry then blindside Victoria Newman and take everything including her company. That would be monstrous indeed. But does that seem like something Ashland Locke would do given all we’ve seen of him so far on the CBS daytime drama?
