Dr. Smith Makes Tammy Slaton Cry on ‘1000-Lb Sisters’ – Can He Get Through to Her?

Tammy Slaton lets the tears flow when she gets a surprise visit from Dr. Eric Smith on 1000-lb Sisters. Is he able to help her get back on track before it’s too late?

Dr. Eric Smith Watches Tammy Slaton’s Spiral on Social Media

On the TLC series, Tammy Slaton stopped showing up for visits with Dr. Eric Smith, her weight loss specialist. Since she was making no progress on her weight loss journey, Smith dropped her as a patient.

However, he made clear that Tammy’s welcome back when she’s ready to give it a real try. Then, when Chris Combs comes for his appointment, he hears bad news.

Chris tells him that Tammy Slaton’s drinking and vaping. And the doc says on a TLC episode that he sees what she’s been up to on social media. So, the doc’s clearly keeping an eye on her.

Since he notices this spiral, Dr. Smith decides to make the trip to her on a home visit. The doctor meets up with Chris and Amy Slaton to better understand what’s up with Tammy on 1000-lb Sisters.

Dr. Smith says he wants Tammy to see that he’s “an advocate for her health regardless of surgery.” He asks her siblings how she is doing. And Chris says he wouldn’t be surprised if Tammy is up to 700 pounds.

They tell him she’s been drinking hard liquor and vaping. So, the doc’s concerned. He says she has still never dealt with her food addiction. And he thinks Tammy must hit her “rock bottom” to get help.

If she hasn’t already hit it, Amy Slaton asks what her “rock bottom” is. Given all the drinking and partying, she’s on a spiral. Then, Dr. Smith says what scares him is that he doesn’t know.

A Surprise Visit on 1000-Lb Sisters

On 1000-lb Sisters, Tammy Slaton is surprised by a knock at her door. She sees Dr. Eric Smith. She knew there was a chance he would come by. But Tammy says she isn’t sure what he wants to see her about. Of course, she knows it has to do with weight loss.

She tells him that she is battling depression and some mental health concerns. When the doc asks what she is up to, she tells him about her partying. She says, “I don’t want a lecture.” Dr. Smith says that he isn’t there to lecture Tammy — he is only there to support her.

He asks how many bottles of liquor she drinks a week. And she says eight. She says she knows that vaping and drinking are doing more damage than good. But she just wants to be free.

He says that he hopes she knows she can reach out to him when she is feeling low. She starts to cry. Then, she says she knows. She just doesn’t know how to ask for help.

Tammy Slaton Needs Dr. Eric Smith’s Help

Tammy Slaton talks about her mental health issues with Dr. Eric Smith on the finale of 1000-lb Sisters. And the bariatric specialist tells her that he is there for her. That sends her into tears. She asks why does he “always make me cry?”

Dr. Smith says he doesn’t. And then they discuss her next steps. And he asks if she is willing to go back to rehab. She says no. Then he asks if she is willing to see a psychiatrist. Tammy agrees. But Dr. Smith does more to help Tammy.

A month after their visit, Tammy Slaton calls to let him know that she’s ready for rehab again. So, Dr. Smith sets up a place for her to go and a psychiatrist to evaluate her.

Dr. Eric Smith also tells Tammy that he’ll do her gastric surgery if she can get below 550 pounds. She says she’s not leaving rehab until she is under 500 pounds. He says if that is the case, then he can arrange for her to go straight from rehab to surgery.

Do you think Tammy can do it and get the operation from Dr. Smith?
