Young and the Restless Comings & Goings: Michael Mealor Back on Contract as Kyle Abbott
This week, Y&R leaks confirm Kyle Abbott will be back on the scene in Genoa City soon. And even better, Michael Mealor’s on contract for at least a year.
The news just broke and it’s exciting. But if you’re current on what’s happening on the CBS soap, you shouldn’t be surprised. That’s because Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) just returned to The Young and the Restless.
If you don’t know your history, Diane is Kyle’s mother, who’s long been presumed dead. She took a rock to the head thanks to Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan), who was then married to Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott).
Maura West played the role at the time of her soap “death” and Alex Donnelly originated the role. But Walters is the one who’s back to stir the pot. So, that means Kyle needs to know his mom’s alive.

Looking back at history, Kyle Abbott was not a love child. Instead, Diane got herself inseminated. She thought she was using Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) swimmers. But Nikki swapped them out.
And that’s how Diane wound up pregnant with Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) son on Young and the Restless. Kyle was born on January 8, 2001 so he was a tween when his mom was killed.
When Kyle should have been 11 he was hit with SORAS (soap opera rapid aging syndrome). That took him to his 20s. Blake Hood, Hartley Sawyer, and Lachlan Buchanan played the young man before Mealor stepped in.
Now, Diane’s son is a dad in his own right. And that means she and Jack share a grandson in Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez). Once Y&R revealed Diane’s resurrection, it was just a matter of time before Kyle came back.
Now, Soap Digest confirmed that Kyle Abbott is back and it’s a lengthy stay since the actor’s on contract. That’s a thrill since he’s a fan favorite. But it’s also rough news since Hunter King’s reportedly NOT back as Summer Newman.
Casting Call for Summer Newman Recast — Young and the Restless News
While many fans love “Skyle”, they might have to adjust their expectations. A casting call went out for Young and the Restless for a woman that reads like it could be Summer.
It’s not likely Kyle Abbott will come back without his wife. So, they need a Summer. Meanwhile, Hunter seems to be far away enjoying life. Of late, she’s in Hawaii judging by her pics on social media.

The casting notice said they need a woman from a wealthy, powerful family who’s in her late 20s. So, look for news on casting a new Summer. However, that would be a letdown for fans that love OG Summer.
In the meantime, gear up to see Kyle get the shock of his life when he’s back. It’s been more than a decade since his mother died. So, he’ll certainly have some questions about that.
For that matter, so do Y&R fans. Last they saw Kyle’s mama, she was bobbing in a lake, dead by all accounts. Now, it seems she survived it. Watch for more news on Kyle Abbott’s return date.
