‘Married at First Sight’: Do Couples Actually Get Married on MAFS?

Married at First Sight  fans wonder, “Do couples actually get married on MAFS?”

Lifetime’s Married at First Sight couples are under the magnifying glass when they are on the show, and we’re going to let you know exactly how things work on the show.

Married at First Sight: What Happens Before the Weddings

Before couples come on Married at First Sight, the experts have to vet them and find their perfect match. One of the things in the agreement is that you must not already be in a marriage. That might seem like common sense, but the new cast members have to confirm this is the case.

Married at First Sight participants do enter into marriage legally on the America show on Lifetime. The only variation of the show that doesn’t have people marrying legally is the Australian version. And that is due to special rules about marriage in their country.

When people decide to go on Married at First Sight, they have to know that they will have a divorce on their record if it doesn’t work out. However, the show will pay for your divorce lawyer if it doesn’t work out. For people that don’t take marriage too seriously, this might not seem like a big deal, but for others—it means the world.

Season 10 and the First Annulments of the Show

Until season 10 of Married at First, no one had gotten an annulment. But on season 10, two of the men asked for and got annulments. The two couples to get annulments were Michael Watson and Meka Jones and Brandon Reid and Taylor Dunklin.

Married at First Sight husband Brandon said that Taylor just wanted to be on the show for social media. They looked like they hit it off in the beginning, but it didn’t take long to see they wouldn’t work out. In fact, Brandon Reid stopped taking the show and had a couple of flip outs.

Meka Jones of Married at First Sight said that her husband Michael lied about everything. But it was Michael Watson that asked for the annulment. And Meka was more than happy to go along with it.

Married at First Sight: Finding the Love of Your Life

On the first season of Married at First Sight no one knew what they were signing up for. It was far into the interview before they let people know they would marry a stranger if they wanted in on this dating experiment.

Now, most people have at least seen the show, but that isn’t always the case. Production hunts down some of the people on the show. Many fans think it is better if people don’t know what Married at First Sight is before going on.

Married at First Sight experts say they are there to help people find love. And they want to see how this experiment works and let everyone else see it. Viewers think the experts do a good job most of the time, but since adding the extra two couples, they think it hasn’t been as good.

Ready to Change Your Entire Life

Not only do you have people watching you constantly when you’re on Married at First Sight. But they have to do this whole process with a stranger. And you don’t get to at your home during the period of time you’re taping the show.

Many Married at First Sight cast members like staying at the apartments. But it is a big difference and means a different work commute and a different schedule. Since you’re taping every day, you don’t get to see the people you normally see much.

If people normally post on social media, that has to change or at least be private. When people go on Married at First Sight they have to keep a lid on what they’re doing. If people share information before production allows them to, that could cause problems because of a contract.

Married at First Sight: Appearing on the Show

If you want to go on Married at First Sight and find a partner, there are some minimum requirements. One of those is age because they want you to be mature enough. To go on the show, you have to be at least 25 years old.

Another major part of the commitment is that you can’t have a wedding in a church. The marriage is a civil marriage to avoid offending people. The couples also have to say things twice for production to get different camera angles.

Married at First Sight spouses have to sign prenups to say that they will take out what they brought into the marriage. They also have to fill out a psychological questionnaire to make sure they are mentally healthy. And this is just the beginning of the very long list of requirements for the experts to match someone.
