Young and the Restless Spoilers: Is Hunter King Leaving as Summer Newman?
If you’re a Summer Newman fan, you might have seen her portrayer Hunter King on her CBS sitcom Life in Pieces. She had a primary role in the comedy that ran from 2015-2019. During that run, Hunter missed quite a bit of time in big chunks from Y&R as Summer Newman.
You might remember from Young and the Restless comings and goings that she dropped from contract to recurring as Summer Newman. For instance, in 2017, she was off-scene entirely. Then, when the show wrapped filming, she was seen more often. Life in Pieces ran four seasons.
So, with Hunter King landing a new role on the upcoming ABC comedy Prospect as schoolteacher Abigail Lansing, what does that mean for Summer on Young and the Restless? According to Hunter herself, she’ll be doing double duty, as she confirmed on an SOD podcast recently.
Why Hunter Wants to Stick Around Y&R – Despite Lots of Other Work
Young and the Restless spoilers straight from Hunter King predict Summer Newman’s staying in Genoa City for now. However, remember that her new Western-themed comedy’s still in the pilot stage. So, if it gets picked up for a full season at ABC, things could change with her availability.
For now, though, Hunter says she loves being on Young and the Restless and says it’s a “fun environment to work in”, adding their hours aren’t that long and that she loves the talented crew. She also said Y&R feels like “a family” and says she “feels such a strong connection to” soaps.
In the same interview, Hunter King says of Young and the Restless that she’ll stay “however long they’ll let me be on the show”. But again, she’s left before for her prime time work and the fate of Prospect, her new show, is a few months away from a reveal.
Will Summer and Kyle Stay Together on Young and the Restless – What’s Next for Skyle?
When pressed about whether Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Summer Newman would marry on Y&R, Hunter King was vague. She said that she knew they might get back together as “Skyle”. On soaps, she said things “ebb and flow”. Plus, Hunter said Michael’s a “joy to work with”.
She also said when she got the Young and the Restless script saying Summer Newman reunited with Kyle, she was “really excited”. She said Summer and Kyle “were each other’s first loves” and she wanted them back together. But, she also acknowledges there’s a legion of “Kola” fans.
As to what’s up with marriage for Kyle and Summer Newman, Hunter King simply said, “you never know”. Then, she joked about not giving up another vital organ in a marriage bargain. She said also on set recently that Michelle Stafford (AKA Phyllis Summers) referred to Summer as her “liverless daughter”.
