Are Kyle & Summer Both Leaving ‘Young and the Restless’ – Hunter King & Michael Mealor Exit ‘Y&R’?

Young and the Restless comings and goings hint Kyle Abbott might follow Summer Newman out of Genoa City if the rumors are true about Michael Mealor and Hunter King‘s contract negotiations. The latest info from an insider at CBS daytime points to one exit after the other with no recasts in sight. Here’s the scoop.

Are Hunter King & Michael Mealor Leaving Young and the Restless?

While nothing is official, a CBS insider’s been leaking for days on Twitter that there are contract issues. Already, Hunter King had some other opportunities and that made renewing her deal as Summer Newman a rough go. And now, the report is that Y&R‘s also hit a snag trying to renew Michael Mealor as Kyle Abbott.

However, there is a bit of hope about Mealor. The CBS source says that the Kyle actor is open to a deal if they can come to terms. So, while it looks like Summer Newman’s exit from Young and the Restless is a done deal – the fate of Kyle Abbott’s not set in stone just yet. If this source is right, there’s a chance Kyle may stick around GC.

Michael Mealor began portraying Kyle Abbott in 2018 while Hunter King first showed up as Summer Newman in 2012. However, she left the show for two years, from 2016 through 2018 for a prime time gig. She returned to become a part of the “Skyle” romance. The couple is very popular on Young and the Restless. Now, they have a huge fan following and will be greatly missed if they both exit.

Summer Newman & Kyle Abbott Split Sets Stage for Y&R to Write Out Both Characters

As of now, only Summer Newman has jetted out of town, breaking Kyle Abbott’s heart in the process. That seems to be a sign that the backstage chatter is correct and Hunter King is moving on from the CBS sudser. However, the way they left Summer’s exit with Kyle hanging, it leaves the writers plenty of room to maneuver depending on Michael Mealor’s contract talks.

Summer Newman’s off to Milan, Italy thanks to Tara Locke’s (Elizabeth Leiner) threat to keep Kyle’s son away from him. So, Summer ended her engagement to Kyle. That left him heartbroken, but with a woman waiting to romance him. So, if Mealor’s people can’t cut a deal with Young and the Restless, they can write him a hasty exit to pursue Summer in Italy.

And if they do cut a deal, then Kyle Abbott can stick around town to play eligible bachelor healing from his recent breakup. And you never know, Hunter King might come back one day. She’s done it before. As of now, there’s plenty of room in the Y&R storyline to handle whatever happens with the actor’s contract talks. So, watch closely for hints on the soap.

Young and the Restless Contracts in the Air – Summer & Kyle Finished?

Now, it sure looks like Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) and co-schemer Tara got their way, running Summer out of town. The soap source revealed that Mealor and King’s contracts aren’t up quite yet, though. However, the actress has some other work lined up reportedly and might need some time off now for that. After the Twitter leak, a soap magazine picked up the story as well and now it has legs…

If the contract negotiations go well, both might pop back up on Young and the Restless. The set insider though says the chance of that is about 50%. They also said that if Michael Mealor and/or Hunter King leave, the soap has no plans to recast the characters. It makes sense especially with Summer Newman since Hunter has shown she’s willing to come back between projects.

However, they’ve recast Kyle before – you’ll recall Michael Mealor is actually a recast after Lachlan Buchanan left the role. For now, this is backstage talk and nothing’s been confirmed by CBS. Then again, it’s rare that the network ever speaks out on contract negotiations or cast exits. So, we’ll keep you posted if the Y&R insider reveals more about Summer Newman or Kyle Abbott and the talented actors that play them.
