Matt Roloff said both he and Amy Roloff planned to “marry a little person.” Now, they’re both with an average-height partner after their divorce. But far before then, they found love at a convention.

So, how did Matt meet Amy? It was at the LPA (Little People of America) conference in 1986. For years, Matt attended LPA events, but this was her first. He says Amy was “painfully shy” and didn’t have her first date until age 17.

Then, Little People, Big World‘s Amy attended Central Michigan University while her future husband was in business, working grueling hours. She worked as a secretary, but her aspiration was to be a wife and mother — but she had no prospects in sight.

Friends talked her into attending the LPA convention. And Matt says he “was not looking for a wife” when he went to LPA that year. He said he first saw Amy Knight (her maiden name) at a weight-lifting competition.

Her future husband was impressed with her competitive streak in a co-ed basketball game. When she sunk a basket from half-court, he started asking about her. And Matt says when he saw her at the LPA ball, “she was a knockout” — but not his date…

They stayed in touch after that, and after she visited him in California for a week, things got serious. Matt proposed with his grandmother’s ring at Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park. He wanted to elope, but she insisted on a traditional ceremony.

Little People, Big World’s Matt Roloff married Amy Knight on September 12, 1987, in Redford, Michigan. They divorced on May 18, 2016, 30 years after they first met and just a few months shy of what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.

Amy Finds Happily Ever After with Chris Marek After LPBW Split

In March 2015, Amy and Matt Roloff announced they’d split but would remain cordial as co-parents and co-business owners. Three months later, they filed together as co-petitioners seeking a divorce in an Oregon circuit court.

Amy was 52 and Matt 53 when they filed their divorce docs. Their youngest, Jacob Roloff, was 18 at the time. Since then, the duo continued to appear on Little People, Big World together but also gradually cut legal ties.

He bought her out of the farm in 2019 for a little more than $600,000 but reportedly still owes her some of that lump sum. Until Amy met Chris Marek, she’d never dated a tall person. But her ex-husband says that’s because none ever asked her out before.

She met Chris at a singles event within months of her official divorce date. On their first date, Chris took Amy Roloff on a motorcycle ride which she loved. He proposed on September 18, 2019, two years after they met.

They married at the family farm on August 28, 2021 and have settled into their happily ever after. She said she wasn’t sure she’d ever marry again after her split from Matt but hoped she would.
