’90 Day Fiance’: Are Jenny & Sumit in Danger from India’s COVID Crisis?

90 Day Fiance sweethearts Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh, still in India, confirmed their COVID-19 diagnoses back in April.

Given the intense wave of coronavirus sweeping through India right now, are they in danger? Are these The Other Way loves in a hotspot for the virus or a safer zone in the Asian nation?

90 Day Fiance: Jenny Slatten & Sumit Singh Locked in Together

After Jenny Slatten relocated back to India to be with her soulmate Sumit Singh on The Other Way, coronavirus changed their living conditions significantly. Back in Spring 2020, India took one of the most extreme stances on the then-emerging virus and locked down its more than 1.3 billion citizens into their houses.

It began in March 2020 and extensions carried it out until May 30, 2020. On March 22, 2020, Sumit confirmed that in the area where he and Jenny live, the public curfew began. He also asked for prayers and thanked healthcare workers and first responders calling it the “deadliest” coronavirus. See what happened to the 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way soulmates.

Working From Home – Sumit Shares Resume

A week later, the 90 Day Fiance star shared his frustrations with the working-from-home order and said he needed work. Sumit offered to make pay videos for fans to keep money coming in for him and Jenny. That came amid strict lockdowns and curfews in India. TLC cameras captured some of this for TOW viewers.

Around the same time, Jenny Slatten commented that the lockdown was “so hard” and she was “hopeful it gets under control soon.” Jenny encouraged people to mask up, stay safe, and stay at home. The TLC couple from The Other Way also did like many in the shutdown and explored cooking and other hobbies.

One thing that kept Sumit Singh busy while shut in the house due to the virus was caring for animals. It seems Jenny Slatten’s 90 Day Fiance took it upon himself to care for some strays that came around hungry. He showed off an orange tabby that “came meowing” that he fed. He said he also fed a dog – but the canine didn’t like Sumit feeding the cat too.

On May 3, Sumit shared a photo (see below) of him looking very frustrated and caged with the announcement that the lockdown was extended another two weeks in his native country. He asked when is COVID “gonna vanish” and hoped this was the last round before they kicked it out.

Jenny Slatten & 90 Day Fiance at Risk for Virus

Although most anyone could catch COVID-19, the couple shared that each had risk factors for it. Sumit reminded everyone that Jenny’s at higher risk because of her age. But he said, as a diabetic, that he’s also in a riskier category for coronavirus.

The restrictions began to ease up in Sumit Singh’s homeland towards the end of the year. And other nations praised their strict approach to managing the disease. And it looked like he and Jenny Slatten avoided the virus altogether. But then everything changed there.

Sumit & Jenny Swept up in Second Wave – 90 Day Fiance Update

Despite all the care taken a second occurrence of coronavirus hit India in Spring 2021 hit and by April, it was considered one of the worst surges of cases in the world. And that’s when Sumit got sick – along with Jenny. On April 27, 2020, Sumit Singh confirmed they both tested positive for COVID-19.

Jenny Slatten was radio silent about their illness. He thanks 90 Day Fiance fans for prayers and said they hoped to recover soon. A week later, Sumit said they were feeling better, but still testing positive. He shared a photo of himself clean-shaven with a happy-looking Jenny Slatten (see below).

Are 90 Day Fiance Stars Safe in India?

With India in a corona crisis, is Jenny safe there with Sumit? He’s from New Delhi originally – a large metropolis with a population of 19 million. However, he and his love settled in a more rural area, as seen on The Other Way spinoff. And just before they got ill, they vacationed in seaside Goa.

At its peak in Goa, there were 4,200 cases in a day. Comparatively, Rhode Island (a state of similar size) had 4,800 cases on its worst day. In total, Sumit Singh’s vacation state had almost 139,000 confirmed cases with nearly 2,200 deaths. Jenny Slatten and Sumit may have picked up the illness there.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, where he’s originally from, the news sounds bad. Around the same time the 90 Day Fiance co-stars got sick, the region had its worst day. In April, the area spiked at more than 20,000 cases a day. In a city of that massive population, that’s about 1/10th of 1% infected a day at its peak.

And now, the city is back under lockdown for at least another week, possibly longer. However, Sumit lives with Jenny a couple of hours away from the crowded city.

Jenny Slatten Recovers – Sumit Singh Surprised How Long it Took

When Sumit first announced he and his 90 Day Fiance love tested positive for the illness, he seemed certain it wouldn’t last long. Then, it was another three weeks before he offered a promising update. He said they were at about “90% back to normal” and he was taken aback that it took “take that long” to recover.

Again, Sumit Singh thanked everyone for their thoughts and kind wishes for him and Jenny Slatten. It seems that although the virus continues to rage through his country, and despite their health risks, they’ve come through it okay. As for the nation as a whole, the heat map shows the larger cities hard hit and the disease now spreads to rural areas.
