1000-Lb Sisters star Tammy Slaton was in bad shape as the last season came to a close. She stopped breathing, then ended up being rushed to the hospital.
There she was put in a medically induced coma. But she recovered and headed back to the in-patient rehab. So how is Tammy doing today?
1000-Lb Sisters: Close Call for Tammy Slaton?
After she contracted COVID, Tammy’s breathing became a huge problem, which left her relying on an oxygen tube. But things got much worse. The family said they were making funeral arrangements at one point for Tammy Slaton.
After only a day at the rehab, Tammy stopped breathing. She ended up in the hospital and was diagnosed with oxygen poisoning. This became very serious with the doctors having no choice but to perform a tracheotomy.
This procedure left her with a tracheostomy tube. Many fans worried that she would have to live with the tube for the rest of her life. So, with a trach tube inserted, she went to rehab.
The goal there was to get the 1000-Lb Sisters celebrity back on the road to health. This entailed much more than only losing weight. She also needed to work on the issues that cause her deadly relationship with food.
TLC’s Tammy Shows up Looking Different
This 35-year-old sibling from 1000-Lb Sisters has social media buzzing today after a recent post. Many thought Tammy sealed her fate by her behaviors revealed in the last season. She abused her body to a point where she could no longer sustain life without help breathing.
She told the psychiatrist she was drinking. But when she told him how much she drank a week, the look on his face told the story. It was clear that Tammy Slaton was risking her life with her “partying” habits.

So, 1000-Lb Sisters fans believed Tammy Slaton would have that trach tube for good. Some thought her lungs became too weak to do the job right. But in her latest post, she showed up looking different.
Tammy was back on the oxygen tube and the trach appeared capped off. That news came from a photo. But it is a photo that fans of the TLC series quickly took notice of.
1000-Lb Sisters: Progress Dispute?
Whether Tammy Slaton made progress or not is a debate online today with fans. But it stands to reason with her trach tube now capped, she’s made some progress.
As Season 3 came to a close Tammy said she was ready for rehab again. She requested a longer stay than her previous time in the facility. So, it sounded as if she realized she had a lot to work on. More importantly, she said she was willing to do the work.
So, nothing official has come down the line about the status of her trach tube. But she may be weaning off the device. This would mean she jockeys between breathing with the trach tube and oxygen tube.
The weaning is usually done until the patient can tolerate being full time on the oxygen tube only. But again, this is all assumed from a picture. Well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words and in this case, that old saying might be right.
