‘Young and the Restless’: Fans Upset ‘Teriah’ Baby Story Sidelined for Unplanned Pregnancy Plot
Young and the Restless spoilers confirm “Teriah“, aka Tessa Porter and Mariah Copeland, are about to be moms but fans are upset at the shoddy treatment their major life event’s getting on the CBS soap opera.
Currently, the only baby the writers seem to care about is the unplanned pregnancy in Sally Spectra‘s belly. Will this get better soon — or far worse than what we’ve seen so far on Y&R?
Tessa Porter & Mariah Copeland’s Baby Arrives on Young and the Restless
The big news this week is the paternity test of one certain redhead in Genoa City. But there’s another baby who’s being born this week on the CBS soap and is getting mostly offscreen treatment. Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa Porter’s (Cait Fairbanks) baby is about to be born.
Surrogate Delphine is in labor on Young and the Restless, yet all we hear about (and see) is the Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) drama. Everyone’s spinning out about whether it’s Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) or Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) who sired her spawn. The jury’s still out.
Plus, a reliable leak came our way that someone’s tampering with Sally’s DNA test. But her child won’t be born for many months. Yet the infant that’s about to pop out is getting almost no screen time. Mariah and Tessa are off to go through labor and delivery for the birth of the baby they’ll adopt.
Yet we’re not seeing a moment of this on Young and the Restless. Why? Many fans are deeply invested in who Sally winds up with, but the bottom line is that what should be a huge plot plays out offscreen instead.
The only LGBTQIA+ couple on the show (aside from Fenn and his new guy popping up) is prepping for a huge milestone — and we’re missing what’s going on with Tessa and her wife Mariah on Y&R…
It’s February 21 today and neither of these women has been seen since February 6. Bizarre, right? And the last promo featuring them (see above) is from before Christmas! And that’s despite what should be a front-burner storyline…
Y&R Writers Obsessed with Sally Spectra’s Unplanned Pregnancy
In the most recent Y&R episode, we see Sally get a notification that her paternity test results are ready. Then, they dove into showing that it’s Adam’s kid. But after that played out, it unwound and showed her thoughts if the test says Nick’s the daddy.
It was definitely a thoughtful, if twisted, way to show the redhead’s ambivalence and insecurity about how this will work, no matter who fathered the fetus she carries.
But there is another baby story right now and the neglect we see has many Young and the Restless fans up in arms. Recall when Mariah was pregnant with Abby Newman’s (Melissa Ordway) kid as Tessa Porter supported her lovingly.
She got tons of screen time and even a dramatic (if anticlimactic) kidnapping. But Y&R writers are only giving the tiniest crumbs of info about Mariah Copeland’s huge life event with Tessa Porter. These newlyweds are starting a family. Mariah’s nervous, as is Tessa but they’re ready for the adventure.

Young and the Restless viewers would be ready too, but we’re not seeing it. There’s an adage in writing for the screen (TV or movie) — “show, don’t tell”.
You get more active scenes when you see things happen rather than being told about it by a character or narrator. But that’s what we’re getting with Tessa and Mariah. It’s usually updated by Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) for offscreen events.
Tessa & Mariah Sidelined & Young and Restless Fans Aren’t Here for It
“Teriah” — aka Tessa and Mariah — are popular with a lot of fans. But you wouldn’t know it by watching recent Y&R episodes. Every scene lately revolves around Sally, Adam, Nick, or some combination of them. Yet, there’s an infant being born that should be a game-changer for the soap.
It could be powerful to see this loving lesbian couple bond over the birth of their child. But will Young and the Restless treat us to any labor and delivery scenes?
Or will they just wander through the background of a scene, infant in hand, to some passing congratulations? Why not a huge baby shower and adoption celebration? Wait and see if we get it.
Meanwhile, some frustrated fan comments include:
- “You don’t want to show Delphine? Fine! Have Mariah and Tessa in a waiting room talking maybe have Mariah call Sharon! We don’t need or want a whole episode about Sally’s fears [about] who the father of her baby is!”
- “Well, someone needs to tell Mariah and Tessa‘s OFF-SCREEN baby story. Choosing to tell us Delphine is in a labor this way sadly highlights the HUGE imbalance in writing for #YR characters. Nothing against the principals in today’s story, but this offscreen **** is insulting.”
- “Tessa and Mariah’s adoption story took place 98% offscreen.”
Not showing Mariah & Tessa at the birth of their OWN CHILD!? This is the shows first time showing a same sex adoption & THIS is how they're handling it?… Wow!! One for the history books & it's given crumbs #yr can have so many "firsts" with #teriah & we're getting nothing. pic.twitter.com/92nDN0lpiN

We’d be pleasantly surprised if Young and the Restless changed course and gave us some passionate birth scenes that show the creation of this milestone family unit on the CBS soap.
But if anyone’s holding their breath, you’d better let it out. We expect little fanfare as Mariah Copeland and her wife Tessa Porter become first-time moms. It’s a shame for this couple to be lost in the background.
