Who Died On ‘Teen Mom’?
Teen Mom has been on the air for more than 13 years. MTV started the popular franchise in 2009 with 16 and Pregnant. Over the years, the cast has faced many tough challenges.
However, the hardest has been dealing with the deaths of their partners, parents, co-workers, and even their children.
Teen Mom: Many Cast Members Reveal Losing Loved Ones
When Teen Mom began airing, one of the first cast members to face losing a loved one was Farrah Abraham. At 16, Farrah lost the father of her unborn daughter, Sophia Abraham. Derek Underwood died at only 18.
Derek passed on December 28, 2008, in a horrific car crash just weeks before the birth of their daughter. She takes Sophia to visit his grave a few times a year.
In 2014, death among the Teen Mom cast struck again when Amber Portwood’s father passed away at 50 on December 16. Two days before the death of Shawn Portwood Sr.
Amber tweeted asking fans for their prayers. Portwood revealed that her father was in the ICU. Two days later, Amber’s dad died from complications following liver surgery.
MTV Franchise Has a Long History of Tragedy
Valerie Fairman, a cast member on 16 and Pregnant Season 2, was found unresponsive at a friend’s Pennsylvania home. Over the years, Fairman had battled her drug addiction demons, checking in and out of rehab numerous times.
Fairman’s official cause of death lists as an accidental overdose. She was 23.

One of the hardest deaths to hit the cast and fans was the death of Teen Mom OG‘s Mackenzie McKee’s mother, Angie Douthit. Fans also took the death of Angie Douthit very hard.
Douthit was diagnosed in 2018 with stage four brain cancer. Following her diagnosis, Mackenzie and Angie shared her heartbreaking journey with reality tv fans. Just 11 months after her diagnosis and hard-fought battle, Angie passed away at 50.
The most recent Teen Mom death occurred in January of this year. Reality TV fans were shocked to hear that 16 and Pregnant Season 5 star Jordan Cashmeyer had died at the age of 26. Cashmeyer’s cause of death lists a drug overdose of fentanyl and cocaine.
Jordan’s stepmom shared the sad news of Jordan’s passing. Her stepmother stated that she received the call that no parent ever wants to get, calling Jordan’s death genuinely heartbreaking. She passed just months after her fiancé, Michael Schaffer.
Their daughter, Lola was born in June of 2021. By September 9, 2021, Michael was dead of a drug overdose. Then, Jordan passed eight months after giving birth, ODing on the same drugs as her fiance. She also left behind her older, almost eight-year-old daughter, Evie.
Teen Moms’ Loss Comes in Many Forms
Not only has the MTV cast suffered many losses among the cast members, and their families, but several of the moms have also suffered great pain and heartache through pregnancy loss.
Teen Mom OG stars Maci Bookout, Amber Portwood, and Catelynn Lowell all experienced miscarriages over the years. Additionally, Lowell shared her mental health battle with fans following her tragic pregnancy losses.
Other franchise stars include Kailyn Lowry, Kristina Anderson Shirley, Taylor Selfridge, and Rachel Beaver, all revealing suffering miscarriages during their time with the MTV franchise.
Many fans claim that they were unaware that the franchise had suffered so many painful losses in the past 13 years, calling it very sad.
