Where Does ‘Euphoria’ Take Place?

Where does Euphoria take place? The life of troubled teen Rue Bennett (Zendaya) unfolds post-rehab in what looks like a California town.

But what’s the truth and where do Rue, Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer) live on the HBO show?

What is Euphoria?

The HBO hit show launched in 2019 and had two seasons so far. It centers on a group of high school students in an ensemble cast but centered on drug-addicted Rue Bennett. She’s in high school, after a stay in rehab, and dealing with home and issues n Euphoria.

Her childhood bestie, Lexi Howard (Maude Apatow – daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann), is someone she turns to — mostly for clean urine to pass drug tests. And Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) is the star QB at East Highland High School with a violent temper.

In season 2, he dates Cassie Howard – played by Sydney Sweeney (boob job rumors perpetuated by her scanty wardrobe).  Another intriguing character is Fezco (aka Fez, played by Angus Cloud), Rue’s drug dealer. Plus, his little runner Ashtray is brilliant.

And Euphoria fans can’t forget trans teen Jules who has shocking s*x scenes with Nate’s disturbed dad, Cal Jacobs. Grey’s Anatomy alum Eric Dane portrays him in a frightening manner. He’s not McSteamy anymore…

To get an inkling of the vibe of this HBO series, imagine Breakfast Club was set in a time of easy access to drugs, social media, and teens exploring their sexuality and gender identity under a microscope.

Where is Euphoria Set?

So, where is Euphoria set? You can tell by the sun and palm trees that it’s on the West Coast in CA. East Highlands, California is a fictional town. It has a small-town vibe and Rue said that wicked Cal pretty much built the middle-class suburb.

But where is it filmed? Taping is also in Southern California. One of the key locales is East Highlands High. They film exteriors at Ulysses S. Grant HS in Van Nuys, CA. They tape interiors at Sony Studios in Culver City.

The convenience store where Fez and Ashtray ply their drug trade is key to Euphoria. Plus, they filmed at a shuttered store called Alta Dena Dairy in Temple, CA.

Also, the Travel Inn on Sepulveda is where Cal did naughty things to high schooler Jules.

 

East Highlands’ mall is really Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, California. Moonlight Rollerway is a real skate rink in Glendale. Astro Burgers is also real but is in Inglewood, CA.

They filmed the train station scene from the S1 finale at Union Station in LA. And Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch, out near Santa Clarita. And Frank’s Restaurant’s also a real place. But it’s shuttered now. It was in Burbank. So, those are the key locations for Euphoria.

Where Can I Watch Euphoria?

Euphoria has a whopping 88% critics and 86% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Zendaya’s won three major awards as lead actress for her portrayal of high school teen Rue Bennett. That’s a primetime Emmy, a Satellite, and a People’s Choice Award.

The HBO show garnered nine total Emmy nominations. These include cinematography, contemporary costumes, contemporary makeup (winner), music composition, original music (winner), and music supervision.
