Steve Burton Back to ‘Young and the Restless’ after ‘GH’ Exit?

Young and the Restless leaks hint Steve Burton could return as Dylan McAvoy and reclaim his wife Sharon Newman (Sharon Case)? There is chatter that he is done at General Hospital as part of several cast exits. Here’s the latest info — although this is all behind the scenes talk leaking from both soaps — and nothing set in stone.

Steve Burton Done at General Hospital as Jason Morgan?

Currently, GH on ABC daytime is the only soap with a vax mandate. Their policy went into effect on November 1. At least one actor’s confirmed off the show for refusing to comply — Ingo Rademacher. He played Jasper “Jax” Jacks on General Hospital and prior played Thorne Forrester on Bold and the Beautiful.

When word leaked that Rademacher exited because of the mandate, Steve Burton’s name also floated up as another that wouldn’t comply. Toronto Sun says they confirmed the actor is done as mob enforcer Jason Morgan at GH. If true, would Burton return to The Young and the Restless?

Young and the Restless: Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton)

Reportedly, there’s a cast culling coming to GH with four male actors cut and two females. Rumor has it some are vax-related but others are storyline driven. Given how much money GH spent to recruit Burton, a story-driven exit seems unlikely. Instead, it seems the jab issue drove him away. If so, Burton was available as of Nov 1.

Will Young and the Restless Bring Burton Back as Dylan McAvoy?

If you don’t know the history of Steve Burton’s journey to and from Y&R… here it is. The actor was reportedly very close to Jill Farren-Phelps when she was an executive producer at GH. Then, she went over to The Young and the Restless in late 2012. Reports say she lured the hunk away from ABC and he launched on Y&R in early 2013.

She created the role of Dylan McAvoy on Young and the Restless for Steve. They tied him to legacy characters by making his parents Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) and Paul Williams (Doug Davidson). Hottie detective Dylan got with Chelsea Newman (Melissa Claire Egan) first and they sizzled.

But Dylan McAvoy’s big love was Sharon Newman on Young and the Restless. Dylan got sent to witness protection while they were still married. That led to their divorce. However, the Y&R wit-sec plot was set up to write out Burton when GH lured him back after his pal Phelps was axed from CBS. Now, the tables turned.

LEAK: The Young and the Restless in Talks with Burton for Dylan Return

An insider who works at CBS daytime leaked that Y&R is in talks with Steve Burton about reprising the role of Dylan McAvoy. And no, Young and the Restless does not currently have a jab mandate in place like the ABC soap. But a January 1st federal mandate looms – yet offers wiggle room on the issue.

Under the pending Fed rule, workers can get the shot, request a waiver, or provide ongoing proof of negative testing. This mandate is currently tied up in legal challenges in court, but would allow Steve Burton to avoid the vax if that’s his stance. And, for the record, Steve Burton’s never stated his thoughts on the vax.

So, will Young and the Restless snap up Steve Burton now that he’s reportedly on the market? We’ll have to wait and see. The Y&R writers seemed to be pushing “Shadam” but now have Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) tangling with Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). Sharon’s marriage is shaky and Nick Newman‘s (Joshua Morrow) suddenly single.

But with Missy Egan back to The Young and the Restless after maternity leave, they might pair her with Nick, leaving Sharon open for Dylan McAvoy’s return as her marriage to Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) continues to falter. Soap Dirt delivers updates as they happen. For now, it’s backstage chatter, but the source was reliable about casting in the past. So, we’ll see.
