Fannie was happy being a part of the Amish community. She was baptized into the church. The TLC star even had a fiancé. She was in love with him and was planning to marry him. But that all changed when she told her fiancé a secret she was keeping.

Fannie Schmucker came clean to her fiancé about her “secret cell phone.” Mary Schmucker’s niece explains they can’t have a cell phone in their community.
The Return to Amish cast member’s fiancé is a “very strict Amish.” He wanted her to give him the phone so he could destroy it. He told her that “the Devil” lives in cell phones and that she shouldn’t have one.
However, she wouldn’t give it to him. So, he went and told their Bishop about it. She thought she loved him. But she doesn’t know how she can marry someone she doesn’t trust.
Fannie Faces Shunning Process
Fannie Schmucker is now being shunned since she was caught with a cell phone. She says her community will “condemn me to hell.” She explains that when the community shuns you, you must confess your sins before the whole church.
The Return to Amish castmate will have to drop to her knees and say that she wants to do better and wants forgiveness. She feels that the whole “process is humiliating.”
The church then votes if Fannie deserves forgiveness. The TLC celeb explains that after voting, she will have to return to the church and find out if they will welcome her back into it or shun her forever.
According to Fannie, if the community shuns you, everyone ignores you, and you must eat alone. Mary Schmucker’s niece explains that you can’t get back into the church until all the members of the church forgive you.
But she feels that by the time you get a second chance, you are “broken” inside. At that point, she says, “you just want to leave” the community.
