Paul Williams on Young and the Restless is trending and with very good reason — of course, everyone loves Doug Davidson and it was nice to see him get some recognition this weekend. This was a bit of a TV comeback for actor Davidson — if not quite the one Y&R fans would like to see

Late Sunday night and early Monday morning, Paul Williams’ name was trending and if you don’t know why — we’ve got the scoop. It’s all because of Sunday night’s episode of Celebrity Jeopardy.
No, Doug Davidson wasn’t playing the game — but he was part of a clue in the final round and for the highest dollar amount. If you’re a fan of both the quiz show and The Young and the Restless, you were probably screaming the answer at your TV.
It’s too bad the three celebs playing the game didn’t have some basic soap opera knowledge. This all went down on Sunday, October 9, 2022, on Season 1, Episode 3 of the celebrity version of Jeopardy which always features much easier Q&A than the standard show.
Y&R on Celebrity Jeopardy – What Did They Ask?
Playing in the third episode was Constance Wu (Fresh Off the Boat, Crazy Rich Asians), Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project, Suicide Squad), and Jalen Rose (Ex-NBA player – Denver Nuggets – ABC/ESPN analyst).
In normal Jeopardy, there are two rounds of quizzing and then the final round of one question. In the celebrity iteration, there are three rounds to stretch the quizzing to a one-hour episode.
And all the questions in every round are pretty easy to be honest — especially if you’re a fan of trivia. So, it was in the third round that we heard about Young and the Restless.
That round is called Triple Jeopardy – where clues are worth $300-1500. Constance Wu chose the $1500 clue in the “A Long Run on TV with Ken Jennings” category. All were video clues by co-host Ken Jennings. Mayim Bialik was hosting this episode.
Paul Williams was the Answer – The Young and the Restless was the Question
Ken read the answer while showing off the photos below. “Two jobs with security are a police officer and a soap opera actor. Doug Davidson was both playing Paul Williams of the Genoa City PD on this show on which he was a regular for 42 years.”
Unfortunately, none of the three players seem to be soap fans and none buzzed in. That meant the host read the proper question — what is The Young and the Restless? We have to say it was nice to hear Doug Davidson’s name and see his face as Paul Williams on TV again.
But it’s just too bad it wasn’t back on Y&R. With them bringing back Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) from the grave — and dragging Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) from his ashram, why can’t we have the police chief back in Genoa City?
