Young and the Restless comings and goings wonder if Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) is gone for good. This week, the soap name-dropped the character, but we never saw him. That begs the question of why it happened. Plus, the CBS soap seemed to set the stage to further back-burner Chief Paul. Take a look.
Young and the Restless Comings & Goings: Chance Chancellor Name Drops Paul Williams
You might recall on Y&R, when Mal Young ran the show, he sidelined legacy characters in favor of newbies. One of those was Paul Williams. So, he put Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) front and center at the Genoa City Police Department. Now, it feels like Josh Griffith does something similar.
Remember last week on Young and the Restless? Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) got a text from Paul asking him to come to the station ASAP. Of course, that meeting between Chance and Paul took place off-screen, so fans of Doug Davidson never got to see him on the CBS soap.
Then, Chance returned and said he’s now a detective at the GCPD. Young and the Restless comings and goings see it’s one more sign that Paul won’t be coming back anytime soon. Otherwise, why would Y&R add another police officer to the force when they have Paul?
Y&R Casting Hints: Rey Rosales Steps Back?
Of course, another reason for them to add Chance on Young and the Restless could be about Rey, not Paul Williams. Next week, Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) finds out her cancer’s back and even worse, so it’s doubtful that Rey will be around the GCPD much in the coming months.
Even so, that’s not enough to explain Paul’s absence on Young and the Restless. Of course, the CBS sudser could use Paul Williams for any police scenes if Rey’s not around. So, why deputized Chance? It’s not a good sign for fans that want to see Paul. Take a look at how Y&R’s aired him.
Back in 2017, we saw Paul Williams in more than 50 Young and the Restless episodes. Then, in the next two years, Doug popped up in around 30 episodes each year. But in 2020, we’ve only seen Paul Williams in four episodes, and there’s just a few months left and no sign of his return.
Fans and Eric Braeden Want Doug Davidson Back as Paul on Young and the Restless
Comings and goings news look dire for Paul Williams, and there’s a bad sign from Doug Davidson himself. Check out the above. During the COVID lockdown, Doug decided to do a cleanout, and it looks like he’s purging some of his Young and the Restless props and memorabilia.
In addition to fans wanting to see Doug back as Paul, it’s clear that Eric Braeden, AKA Victor Newman, wants him back. He’s been a vocal supporter of the CBS sudser bringing back his longtime friend. And when Young and the Restless sidelined him, Braeden tweeted his displeasure.
So, for now, this move to make Chance a detective and not bothering to bring Paul Williams on for the scene is not a good sign on Young and the Restless. Plus, it’s harder on fans now that they saw Paul so much on the recent run of classic episodes where he was a constant presence.
We’ll update you if anything changes, but for now, Doug Davidson is off-contract as Paul Williams, as he confirmed. And we agree with Braeden that “it’s a mystery” why CBS sidelined the talented actor.
