General Hospital beauty Sasha Gilmore is rocking a giant baby bump prompting fans to ask if Sofia Mattsson, the actress who plays her, is pregnant in real life. We have that answer for you which is surprising – and changed recently – and some photos to show you what’s happened in recent days with the ABC soap actress.
Who Plays Sasha on General Hospital?
Actress Sofia Mattsson landed the role of Sasha Gilmore back in 2018, after starting her acting career in the US in 2012. Before that, Sofia lived in her native Sweden. Her older sister, Helena Mattsson, is also an actress. Sofia quickly caught the Hollywood bug when she came to visit her sister and decided to give it a go.
After being in the US a while, the actress says she and her sister “almost feel American”. No doubt, the General Hospital actress feels more American since she married one. She and husband, Tom Payton, a former actor and now investment banker, celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary this Spring.
And with Sofia happily settled at General Hospital playing Sasha Gilmore. And her husband rocking an impressive job as well after completing his graduate studies, why not start a family? Here are the details on Sofia Mattsson’s overlapping pregnancy with her on-screen alter-ego Sasha.
Is Sofia Mattsson Pregnant Like Her GH Character – Fastest Daytime Pregnancy Ever?
Right now on the ABC daytime drama, yes Sasha Gilmore is pregnant and looks ready to pop at any time. And it was in June that the General Hospital player revealed a baby bump on Instagram. That came not long after Sasha revealed to her one night stand to Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor).
We wrote at the time, our suspicions that General Hospital would fast-track her pregnancy to align with Sofia’s. And that’s exactly what they did. Many GH fans remarked that Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) seemed to be pregnant for a full year, Sasha’s pregnancy felt like five minutes in comparison.
What’s interesting right now is that while her General Hospital character is pregnant – Sofia Mattsson is not. That’s because she gave birth on July 26 to her son with husband Tom Payton. So, while the answer to the question “is Sasha pregnant in real life” was “yes” – earlier in the Summer. A few weeks ago, that answer flipped over to “no”. Now, it’s only Sasha Gilmore who is pregnant. Confused yet?
Real Baby Bump on Screen – Sofia Out on General Hospital Maternity Leave
This is where it gets a little confusing. The big old baby bump you see on GH right now is Sofia’s real pregnancy. But she shot all those scenes before her maternity leave. So, Sofia Mattsson was pregnant for all of that. The big question is – what happens to Sasha and does she exit as part of the coming mob drama on the September 17 wedding?
Remember, she insisted Brando attend the mob wedding of his friends and she’ll be his plus one to the big event on General Hospital. And with an attack brewing thanks to Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), it could put Sasha Gilmore right in the line of fire. That leaves a lot of options open. The worst case scenario is that GH kills off her character and Brando loses her and the child – but that would be awful…
With her going out on maternity leave from General Hospital, they could have her injured in the chaos. And she could linger in a coma for a few months. Then, when Sofia’s back on set, Sasha can wake up. Alternately, after this scare, Brando might send her away somewhere safe until things calm down. Then she could return as Sofia Mattsson’s ready to come back to work.
