‘General Hospital’: 7 Worst Couples of All Time – Ava, Morgan, and More
General Hospital has some of the best couples on daytime. Most love Luke with Laura, and Sonny with Carly, to name a few. But there have been a few stinkers in there too. Some characters just do not belong together. These are our seven worst pairings of all time.
#7 Poor Maxie Jones & Lying Levi Dunkleman on GH
Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) is a beloved legacy character on General Hospital. But let’s face it — the girl has made some pretty bad decisions. Levi Dunkleman (Zachary Garred) was one of the worst.
Maxie credited Levi as her spiritual guru and claimed he got her life back on track. She brought him to Port Charles but both Mac Scorpio (John J. York) and Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) did not trust him. Maxie planned to marry him anyway.
Maxie realized that her stepdad and the hot cop were correct. That’s when Levi stole her mom, Felicia Jones’ (Kristina Wagner) Aztec jewelry. And he kidnapped Maxie and Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan). In the end, Nathan shot Levi but it was Maxie and a dagger that killed him. The silver lining was that Maxie ended up with hunky Nathan.
#6 Sweet Emily Quartermaine & Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital
Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) has been with many women on General Hospital. But his relationship with Emily Quartermaine (Natalia Livingston) never felt right to fans. They did not seem to match up in any way.
Emily was one of the sweetest characters ever on General Hospital. She came to Monica (Leslie Charleson) and Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) as a child. Her mom died of cancer and the Q’s took her in and doted on her.

She was also part of the teen scene with Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher). Plus, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst), and Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson). She later had a beautiful love story with Nikolas which was legendary.
Meanwhile. Sonny was a ruthless mob boss. His life was in constant danger. Not the type of guy Alan and Monica wanted for their daughter. Even Emily’s brother, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), did not approve of the match. Plus, Sonny knew her when she was just a kid.
Emily did bring out Sonny’s softer side. She also helped him through issues with his bipolar disorder. But even with that, their relationship felt icky to fans, who were glad when it was over.
#5 Monica Q & Ned Ashton – Too Close for Family Comfort on GH
Speaking of ick. Monica Quartermaine with Ned Ashton (Kurt McKinney) was a regrettable couple on General Hospital. Back in 1988, a young Ned worked at Green Meadows Spa, using the name Ward. He met Monica when she was a guest at the spa.
They had an affair, unaware that she’s Ned’s aunt by marriage. Later, Ned came to Port Charles and tried to continue the romance. He ended up falling for Monica’s long-lost daughter Dawn Winthrop (Jennifer Guthrie).
On their wedding day, Dawn found out about her fiancé’s affair with her mother and called off the wedding. Monica and Ned told the family the truth. Then, Alan Quartermaine attacked his nephew. General Hospital fans were pleased to leave that relationship in the past.
#4 Luke Spencer’s Fling with Super Spy Anna Devane
Luke and Anna? Yes, Luke and Anna, for a short time. Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) were longtime friends. In 2012, they became something more. She leaned on him when her daughter, Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough), “died”. Sparks flew and they coupled up on General Hospital.

During their relationship, Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan) comes back to town. Luke was suspicious of him. And it turned out that he was right to be. “Duke” was really Cesar Fason (Anders Hove) in disguise.
In the end, Anna ended the relationship with Luke because she felt he would always be in love with Laura Spencer. These two were always better off as friends. Luke ended up, not with Laura, but with Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot), until he left Port Charles for good. But nothing is ever permanent on General Hospital.
#3 Messed up Morgan Corinthos & Ava Jerome on General Hospital
Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) and Ava Jerome (Maura West) are another General Hospital couple that gave some fans the creeps. On GH, Morgan met Ava when he dated her daughter, Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin). Ava fell for Morgan — but there’s was a destructive relationship.
Morgan Corinthos loved Ava Jerome too. But at the same time, he still loved her daughter. Even worse, Ava had crypt sex with Morgan’s father and got pregnant. There was a time when Morgan didn’t know if Ava was pregnant with his baby or his sibling. Ava Jerome’s baby turned out to be Sonny’s daughter, or Morgan’s.
The destruction did not end there. Morgan died from a car bomb, meant for Ava’s brother, Julian Jerome (William DeVry). That came after Ava Jerome switched Morgan Corinthos’ bi-polar meds. Ava drove Morgan into a manic episode. She’s still haunted by this today.
#2 Cheating Carly Corinthos & Freaky Franco Baldwin on GH
Many viewers hated it. But Carly Corinthos loved Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) for a time. During one of her “off” periods with Sonny, Carly fell for the reformed serial killer. This infuriated her family who thought Franco had her son raped in prison.
The court ruled that Franco’s brain tumor caused his evil ways. Once General Hospital doctors removed it, he became a good guy. Reformed Franco Baldwin fell for Mrs. Corinthos and she felt the same. The two decided to get married on Halloween.
But Carly could never keep away Sonny and cheated with him. Franco spied on her using an ugly necklace camera. Then, he confronted and dumped her at the altar. Carly eventually went back to Sonny. And Franco fell in love with the sweet Elizabeth Webber.
#1 Edward Quartermaine and His “Other Women” on General Hospital
Edward Quartermaine (John Ingle) was a ruthless businessman on General Hospital. The love of his life was his wife, Lila Quartermaine (Anna Lee). As much as he loved Lila, there were many women who stole the attention of the wealthiest man in Port Charles.
The most notorious fling Edward had was with Beatrice Le Seur (Marcella Markham). They had a son together, Jimmy Lee Holt (Steve Bond). Plus, he was once married to Heather Webber (Robin Mattson) when he thought Lila was dead.
Another affair was with Mary Mae Ward (Rosalind Cash), who also gave him a son, Bradley Ward (Aaron Seville). But Edward and Lila were a love story that survived it all. The two were made for each other. And Edward with anyone else on General Hospital is just unthinkable.
