Big Brother: Did Tiffany Really Betray the Cookout? What CBS Didn’t Show You

Big Brother season 23 houseguest Tiffany Mitchell was last week’s Head of Household (HoH). Xavier Prather, her Cookout alliance partner, is upset with her win. He claims that Tiffany went rogue and stole the HoH. But, is that really what happened?

UPDATE: See Who Won the Last HoH. It’s current as of today.

Big Brother: Did Tiffany Mitchell Steal the HoH (Head of Household)?

According to Xavier, Tiffany Mitchell should have dropped out of “The Flying BB-inos” HOH comp to give the win to another member of the Cookout.  He felt that the HOH wins should be spread out among the alliance members.

Big Brother: Tiffany Mitchell - BB23 - HOH

But, how to ensure a Cookout team member won, while taking into account many unknown variables became a convoluted conversation between alliance members that tried to never be all in the same room at once.  It was hard to nail a plan down, especially when no one knew what type of competition it would be.

The Metrics of Throwing the Head of Household Comp on Big Brother

There were many priorities and objectives The Cookout wanted to achieve. It was assumed the competition would be an endurance competition.

The first priority was to have a Cookout alliance member outlast Claire and Alyssa.  This would ensure that one of the alliance would win HoH on Big Brother. Most people assumed that Claire would not be eligible to win because they thought she might be the former secret Head of Household. But, to hedge their bets, everyone would play and try to outlast her. Some even suspected she may have a secret power along with her previous win.

Big Brother 23: The Cookout

Also, they didn’t want everyone to drop too quickly. This could expose their Big Brother secret alliance to Alyssa and Claire.

Next, they wanted Hannah Chaddha, Azah Awasum, or Derek Frazier (Big D) to win the Head of Household. There was no strategic value in this move, it would just more evenly spread-out HOH winners among the alliance members.  Xavier had won once. Tiffany Mitchell had won once. And Kyland Young had won twice on this season of Big Brother.

So, since their agenda was to spread out the HoH wins among The Cookout alliance, that means Kyland should be excluded from winning.

On a personal level, no one wanted to be one of the first three to fall (or throw the comp) because the first three to fall off became automatic Have-Nots.

How “The Flying BB-inos” Head of Household Comp Played Out on BB23

As expected, it was an endurance competition. And Big Brother endurance competitions can sometimes last for hours.

This weeks endurance comp was called “The Flying BB-inos”. This competition has been played 9 times in the Big Brother house over the years. There have been some epic battles in past versions of this like in BB season 22 when it came down to Nicole vs Cody and season 20 when Tyler beat out Haleigh.

To play, all BB23 houseguests stood on a disc, grabbed a rope, and went circling around in the air. Last one to keep both feet on their disc wins.

Here’s What Went Wrong on Big Brother

The plan fell apart pretty quickly when less than two minutes in, Big D falls off his disc.

Alyssa falls off 4 minutes later and the plan is back on track (or so it seems).

Claire wants to throw the comp, but doesn’t want to look obvious, so she waits a respectable 12 minutes and then “falls”. In the Big Brother diary room, she admits to throwing the competition.

At this point, it’s only members of The Cookout left. This is where everyone begins to throw the competition all at once.

It’s important to realize that CBS edited this to make it seem longer than it actually was.  Everything that happened, did so really fast.

  • Within seconds of Claire throwing the comp, Hannah also throws it and drops.
  • A little over a minute later Xavier drops.
  • Then, less than two minutes later, Azah falls off.

No one was expecting four people to fall in under five minutes during an endurance competition.

After the rush of people throwing the comp or falling, it was rapidly down to just Tiffany and Kyland.

By a Fluke – Only Tiffany and Kyland Were Left

The plan was not to leave Tiffany or Kyland up there in this HoH comp. But, the plan fell apart fast because Hannah was still suffering from a slight head injury. You may recall, Big D jumped off the hammock in the back yard, sending her crashing down and hitting her head on a wooden support.

So, when Bubbles the Elephant kept hitting the back of her head, it wasn’t doing her any favors. She understandably decided to throw in the towel immediately after Claire fell in the Big Brother competition. And, no one expected Azah to get motion sick so early in an endurance contest.

Tiffany Mitchell - BB23

Right after Xavier dropped it was clear that Azah was getting sick.  If Ky and Tiffany Mitchell suddenly both dropped, it would be obviously that they were throwing the comp.  While it would have made Azah the HoH, it would also be a red flag to Claire and other target Alyssa that there was an alliance.

It came down to Tiffany and Ky. And, both of them wanted the win. Ky wanted the HoH title for his third time, and Tiffany wanted her 2nd win. Tiffany saw that she was a stronger player (in this comp) and decided to stay in it to win it.

Tiffany Mitchell Explains Why She Won to Xavier Prather

After the competition was over, in the Coral room, Tiffany told Xavier that she wanted Hannah to win. Then, when Hannah came down, she wanted Azah to win.

Tiffany said that she would have dropped earlier, but she didn’t think Kyland would let Azah or Hannah win, so she was staying in until Ky dropped.

Also, Tiffany said that Alyssa was more of a competition threat than Claire, so she thought it was best to get Alyssa out first.  This proved to be true since Alyssa wound up winning the next Power-of-Veto contest.

Tiffany Mitchell assured Xavier if Alyssa came off the Big Brother block, she’d put Claire up in her place. Her explanation satisfied him. And he said that all was good.

Later, Azah said that Kyland should have dropped right after Claire fell.

Tiffany Mitchell: First Female on Big Brother to win Back-to-Back HOA Competitions

One thing that is overlooked by some is what a powerful player Tiffany Mitchell is.  She is the first woman in Big Brother history to win back-to-back Head of Household comps.  She has won both mental and physical competitions.

Tiffany Mitchell - Big Brother - Head of Household Key

Before the HoH BB competition Tiffany said she would like to win. But the men all told her “no”.

She agreed to throw the comp under the right circumstances and told Big D that if he was still up after Claire dropped and also Alyssa, then she would throw it to him.  She was also willing to throw it to Hannah or Azah.

Meanwhile Kyland was campaigning and asking people to throw the match and give him the win. But, the consensus was to give the HoH to someone that had not won before.

Ky said in the diary room said if he “won”, then this would give him his 3rd HoH win and that would be great for his resume.

A win for Kyland would also give the men in the Cookout 4 wins and only one HoH win for the women. That doesn’t sound like Kyland and Xavier really wanted to spread out the wins, does it?

Currently, on the Big Brother live feeds, there is a divide starting between the men and women in The Cookout.

Some of the women feel that if Kyland had won, that he would use it to say that the women were simply riding the men’s coat tails.

Xavier Prather is Playing His Own Game Already

While all 6 have been loyal to The Cookout. It’s time for them to start playing their own game. They’ve nearly achieved their goal of being final six.

Xavier is off to a good start.  He has already positioned the alliance against Tiffany Mitchell. She is now an easy target. And if the men push Tiffany out, they could pick off the rest of the women.  Statistically, male alliances do better than female alliances in the game of Big Brother.

Big Brother - Xavier Prather

Xavier is also planting seeds in people’s minds that maybe he doesn’t have to go up on the block against Alyssa.  He says he’s already been on the block the last three times. And he’s also been on the block up against other alliance members’ shields.  He makes a good point, but he’ll probably be on the block next week, unless he or Alyssa wins Head of Household.

If the houseguests were able to evict Alyssa this week, Xavier would be better positioned.  Because next week (if things go to plan), it will be Xavier and Alyssa on the block.  If Alyssa wins POV again, it will force two members of the Cookout on the block together.  No one, including Xavier, has figured out that you don’t want to be last person with a shield. It can backfire and send you to the jury house.

But don’t count Tiffany Mitchell out yet. She is already coaching Claire to paint a target on Xavier’s back during her eviction night speech.
