90 Day Fiance‘s Benjamin Taylor and Akinyi Obala are one of the new couples this season on Before the 90 Days. Akinyi recently broke her silence and called out both Benjamin and TLC following the American man’s arrival in Kenya. The Kenyan 90 Day Fiance went in on her man and the network on her Instagram. What did she have to say about how things went down?
90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days Akinyi Obala Goes off on Benjamin Taylor
Akinyi Obala went off on Benjamin Taylor online for not standing up for her or her relatives online. On the current season of the show, Benjamin Taylor just landed in the foreign country. Akinyi said he would be the first Caucasian man to visit her village. And, there has been a lot of hype surrounding the culture clash. But, it seems there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes for this couple.
90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days spoiler clips hyped up the meeting between Benjamin and Akinyi’s brother all season. Some TLC watchers find her brother intimidating. But, that’s one of the things Akinyi Obala spoke out against online. According to Akinyi, Benjamin Taylor was “warmly welcomed” by her kin when he arrived in Kenya. She added that she’s still waiting for her American love to set the record straight publicly. But, she said he likes looking like the “innocent one” network cameras make him out to be.
90 Day Fiance: Is the Network to Blame?
This is a common thing for 90 Day Fiance stars to rail against once episodes air. They have no control over how scenes are spliced together and how the final episodes turn out. Along with calling out Benjamin for his decision to stay silent, Akinyi Obala went in on TLC for making her relatives and her country look bad. The Kenyan woman said her culture is “beautiful”. She wished she was the one in charge of putting her scenes together. In her eyes, the 90 Day Fiance team completely dropped the ball.
Akinyi Obala went on to say she is just as surprised as viewers when she watches the show. She added that her people are “very welcoming.” But, thanks to the editing, the final product doesn’t convey that. Akinyi is “livid” over the way things look on television. On camera her family appears to treat Benjamin Taylor poorly. And, they come across as negative. Akinyi blames the editing and the “innocent American” narrative for this. In addition, Akinyi said her family is “nothing but the best”.
What Happens Now?
It’s hard to tell at this point what upset Akinyi Obala more – the editing or Benjamin Taylor not standing up for her and her family. Whether or not his silence drives a wedge in their relationship will be something to keep an eye on moving forward. Calling out the network’s editing is a common practice for many cast members. And, it seems Akinyi is the latest to echo that.
Currently on 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days, Benjamin is trying to impress Akinyi’s family and come up with a way to pay the “bride price”.
