Welcome to Plathville dad Barry Plath doesn’t appear to be the same ultra-conservative and nerdy dad that TLC fans remember from Seasons 1 through 4. In fact, it seems like the father of nine has completely changed, that is according to the Plath family updates provided by his daughter Lydia Plath.

Welcome to Plathville: Barry Plath of Seasons Past

When the TLC network began airing Welcome to Plathville on November 5, 2019, viewers did not know what to think about the large rural Georgia family. Parents Barry and Kim Plath chose a strict religious upbringing for their nine children to shelter them from the modern world.

Of course, as viewers know that did not last as long as they had hoped. They soon began having issues with their three older children wanting to break free of their parent’s rules.

Barry of seasons past was quiet and laid back. Fans did not care for his bland and goofy-natured personality. They also felt that his wife at the time Kim Plath, basically controlled the entire family, or at least tried to. No matter how she acted, or what she did, he always followed along behind her.

But as Welcome to Plathville Season 3 aired viewers saw many significant changes taking place not only between Kim and her children but between them as well. They believed that once Kim Plath saw she was losing control of her older children, she decided to make a change herself.

She was no longer interested in living the previous life she had chosen and forced on her children. She wanted to be free to do as she pleased and express her wilder side. So she decided to end her 25-plus-year marriage.

Barry’s Transformation – Is There A New Love Interest Behind It?

Once Barry accepted his marriage to Kim was over, he also changed his life. Lydia Plath says he has loosened up a lot. He has let go of most of the strict rules of the past and become an easygoing and fun dad.

Fans first noticed that he had begun to change in October of 2022. He began to work out with his sons Micah Plath and Isaac Plath more. He also changed his wardrobe by ditching that conservative dad look. Whenever Welcome to Plathville fans look for information regarding the family they turn to Lydia.

She doesn’t give out much information, but compared to the rest of her family she is a regular chatterbox. Lydia shares that her dad is quite a dancer, and the family clown as well.

Now that some time has passed and Kim has moved on, many viewers wonder if he is dating. Or has possibly found a new love interest himself. Fans believe that could explain the transformation. Regardless of what is behind his change, fans say they want to see more of the new Barry.

 Is TLC Bringing Back Welcome to Plathville?

The Welcome to Plathville followers are eager for news on Season 5. There has been no official confirmation from the network. But there have been some interesting rumors and leaks. As Soap Dirt previously reported, Lydia Plath shared a photo last November of her mom Kim Plath and the film crew seemingly confirming that filming had begun.

She then posted the news of her eldest brother Ethan Plath and Olivia Plath (his wife?) moving to Minneapolis. She said there would be more about them in the new season.

More rumors regarding Olivia and Ethan have come to light, especially concerning their relationship. Olivia’s sister Sophia Meggs recently posted that Ethan and Olivia are going through a divorce. She also added that the new season would air soon. However, Olivia denied all claims made by her estranged sister.

So, at this time all Welcome to Plathville fans can do is wait and hope that the Season 5 rumors are true. They also hope the network can clear up all the juicy tea being spilled.

Viewers want an update on the entire family. But they are especially interested in the Ethan and Olivia divorce talk, and if Barry Plath has found a new love, or at least actively dating.
