‘Married at First Sight’: Experts See Haley as Bait and Switch
Married at First Sight celeb Haley Harris never found a connection with her new husband, Jacob Harder. Before the honeymoon ended, the two were at odds with each other and ultimately chose divorce on Decision Day. The experts gave their thoughts on the match during the second part of the Reunion episode on Lifetime. Was there a bait and switch?
Married at First Sight: Haley Harris Defends Herself
Haley Harris, of Married at First Sight tried to justify her actions to host Kevin Frazier on the Reunion episode. Haley refuted almost everything Jacob said to Kevin about their relationship. She said she tried to have an emotional connection, and then she attempted to find a physical connection with her husband but never felt anything for him.
Dr. Pepper said she believes Haley Harris is put off by little things, to the point she doubts anyone is acceptable to her. The Doctor’s suggestion to Kevin is that she needs to look deep within herself. Previously on Married at First Sight, Haley said that she removes herself and doesn’t address things she doesn’t want to deal with. Dr. Pepper described Haley Harris as cold and said she doesn’t like to cuddle or hold hands.
Haley Harris told Kevin Frazier sleeping with Jacob Harder was her trying to make things work. When that didn’t bring her closer to him, she didn’t know what else to do. Haley said she felt like Jacob never tried to get to know her as a person. But at the Married at First Sight retreat, Jacob won the couples game, so it doesn’t make sense that she says he doesn’t know her.
MAFS: Dr. Pepper Surprised at Lack of Connection
Dr. Pepper Schwartz expected Haley Harris to have some chemistry with Jacob Harder, and the fact they never formed a bond is a surprise. Pastor Calvin Roberson said he felt Jacob needed to come out of his shell more, and Haley needed some stability in her relationship. The Married at First Sight experts said she told them her history in relationships was to run away.
Dr. Pepper said it’s hard to get rejected over and over. She previously said Haley not wearing the bracelet Jacob sent as a wedding gift equated to rejection in his eyes. Jacob said if she didn’t like it, they could have exchanged it for something she did like. But the bracelet not even being in the same state as Haley told him a lot. Haley Harris said they weren’t in a good place after the honeymoon on Married at First Sight, so why should she wear it?
Dr. Viviana Coles said she could see Jacob tried very hard, but Haley couldn’t overcome his quirks. Pastor Cal said people have to change in a relationship to make it work, but Jacob seemed to get stuck on Haley Harris not being attracted to him on Married at First Sight. Jacob said that his wife might not hate him as a person, but she hated him as a husband. Haley pursed her lips and made no response.
Married at First Sight: No Show of Affection from Haley
Did Haley do a bait and switch with the experts? Dr. Viv told Kevin Frazier that she described herself as very affectionate during selection interviews, but she didn’t act affectionate during the show. During the Married at First Sight Reunion episode, a previous clip that never aired was shown of Haley Harris doing a fishbowl exercise with Jacob Harder. One of those was for the couple to hold hands during the activity. In that clip, Haley said she did not like holding hands at all.
During the MAFS honeymoon, Haley Harris hugged random strangers, but she refused to hug her own husband, according to Jacob. When he called her out on that, she said she was okay with strangers because she didn’t have to see them ever again. Another suggestion during the Married at First Sight relationship-building exercise was to reenact their first kiss. Again, Haley Harris refused, saying they were doing good with just holding hands.
The matchmakers discussed the difference between her actions and her word. Pastor Cal said he thought Haley wasn’t attracted to Jacob Harder and couldn’t get over the hurdle. The Lifetime experts on Married at First Sight agreed that holding hands in companionship or empathy should not be a big deal. Haley Harris said neither of them got what they were looking for, but hopefully, they will find it in the future.
