‘Love After Lockup’ Exclusive: Lizzie Kommes Finally Gets Sober – Stunning Life Transformation Inspires
Love After Lockup star Lizzie Kommes debuted in Season 1 with Scott Davey and headlines about her recent arrests seemed troubling.
But Lizzie talked exclusively with Soap Dirt about her long hard road to sobriety, how she finally cleaned up her act, and the truth about her recent legal troubles. She also told us about how she’s transformed her life and her huge plans to celebrate the end of her probation in two months.
Love After Lockup’s Lizzie Kommes Explains String of Arrests in 2021 & 2021
As Soap Dirt reported last year, Lizzie seemed to be struggling after getting out of prison and away from Scott Davey. At a glance, it looked like she was back sliding when she wound up arrested several times on allegations of domestic abuse by her then-boyfriend. We’ll call him simply “BB” here. He even took out a restraining order on her.
However, Lizzie Kommes took us through the timeline and explained these events to us. Soap Dirt then obtained a police report about two of the police calls that seem to back up Lizzie’s statements about the events leading up to her repeated arrests. The Love After Lockup beauty said when she met BB, he was a bar owner, wealthy, and an alcoholic. And she admits she was drinking heavily too.
But Lizzie said after she began dating this man, she began drinking even more. She said, “I’ve done a lot of crazy things in my life. This was probably the worst. I know better than to date a man that mentally abused me. But I was so far into my alcoholism, that I didn’t care.” Lizzie Kommes said BB was very controlling from the start. He insisted she quit her job, and move to Port Washington, although they lived separately.
Once there, Lizzie says he used her probation status to punish and control her. The Love After Lockup alum says, “He called the cops on me six times.” She said he accused her of violence, but there was never any proof. However, she said because she was on probation and “he’s a local businessman, I didn’t have a leg to stand on”.
Reports Show Police Doubts – Probation Officer Pulled Her Away from Trouble
You can see from the police report below one one of these six police calls against Lizzie Kommes from Love After Lockup, that the police found no reason to cite her. In other calls, she was arrested, but Lizzie said that’s because her “voice doesn’t matter” because of her status. She says BB was “very controlling, very manipulative”.
The report said BB told the police he’d been hit in the mouth but neither officer saw any blood. Then, the responding officer said BB began “hitting himself in the side of the head”. And it was “hard enough” that the officer told him to stop because he was concerned that BB was “possibly trying to leave marks on himself that he could then claim she [Lizzie Kommes] did”.
Then, from this report on the Love After Lockup ex-cast member’s incident, the other officer concluded they had no cause for a citation. The document says they didn’t have enough for “even a disorderly conduct ticket”. And that this “did not qualify as a domestic violence incident”. During all these incidents, BB took out a restraining order against her, but she says he kept showing up to her apartment with gifts.
Lizzie said she refused to see him and called the police. But they told her that he could contact her – just not the other way around. The Love After Lockup diva said she wouldn’t talk to him with the order in place, so he dropped it. She said to get the TRO, he had to bring in witnesses “to lie”. She also hoped he was “done with her” after he took out the order, but he was not.
Lizzie’s Alcoholism Out of Control – Love After Lockup Star Needed Help
Despite her drinking, until BB and her time in Port Washington, Lizzie said her probation was on track and her PO was concerned because she’d never gotten a call about her. Her now-ex had watched her on Love After Lockup, she says, and had an idea of who she was that didn’t align to who she really is. He also influenced her, she says, to get his initials “BB” tattooed onto her as a sign of “love”.
She says it was about control. The ex-prisoner from Love After Lockup told SD she was desperate to get away from BB, from Port Washington, and from her demons. She asked her PO for help and she mandated that Lizzie had to leave Port Washington. That sent her back to Portage, WI, far from BB, solving at least part of her problem.
But the alcohol abuse still haunted her. Then, Lizzie’s probation officer busted her with a glass of wine at a surprise visit. And she sanctioned her with 20 days in jail. While inside, she asked for Vivitrol. It’s a monthly injection to help fight alcohol dependence. However, Lizzie Kommes told us it was an uphill battle to get it for alcohol abuse. It’s much easier to get it, she says, if you’re an opioid or heroin addict.
Also, her PO put her in an ankle monitor to help her through the last of her probation. You might have see photos of Lizzie Kommes in her ankle monitor. She’s not been shy about hiding it. Love After Lockup‘s Lizzie told us she wanted the Vivitrol shot because “I knew in my heart I wasn’t strong enough to just quit drinking.” She said, “I needed that medical thing.” But she didn’t get it until a month after her release.
Sober at Last – Lizzie’s Transforming her Life – Removing Scars of the Past
Lizzie Kommes told us exclusively that she got her first shot in May but it didn’t help her alcohol cravings. She was frustrated and hoped she would get “super sick” if she had alcohol. So, she had “three glasses of wine with dinner”. Then she decided maybe she could drink “in a healthy environment where I could be social”. But that wouldn’t work. Instead of the medication helping, she had a spiritual epiphany.
The Love After Lockup single mom said, “I literally had to go to church and get cleansed.” But she says, “I think the shot got me to the point where I needed to be.” She adds, “There’s no way I will ever drink again.” Lizzie Kommes says, “June 6 was when I had my last drink” and admits “drinking was my drug of choice”. She said people don’t realize how dangerous it is “because it’s legal… but it’s a drug”. As for drugs, she hasn’t touched them since 2017.
In addition to putting down the bottle – she’s removing other signs of her troubled past, including that “BB” tattoo. Her favorite tattoo artist, Cartoon, did it at his shop, Alpha Red in Wisconsin Dells. You can see that above. She also got baptized recently and turned her life over to God. The season 1 start from Love After Lockup is also exploring adventures she couldn’t while struggling with alcohol abuse. See the photo above of her recent skydiving adventure.
Now, it’s less than two months since Lizzie Kommes is off probation for her prison sentence. She served out her three years and hasn’t had any additional time tacked on for anything. She says all those Port Washington charges ultimately came to nothing. As for her post-probation plans? Lizzie’s planning an epic trip to Hawaii to celebrate her freedom.
