He wants to put a stop to the entire situation with Destinie. Especially before his new wife, Sara Isaac, finds out about the situation. He believes if he can round up some cash to send Destinie, this problem will disappear.

So, he approaches Sara about getting some cash from their savings. He agreed that she would handle all the finances because she is much better with money than he is.

So, he devises an elaborate lie in hopes his wife will give him the cash to send to Folsom. he tells her he wants to do something special for his employees to show his gratitude for their hard work.
