Liesl Obrecht’s Sketchy History on ‘General Hospital’
Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) is a fan-favorite on General Hospital and the perfect mixture of evil and kindness. Over the years, Liesl proved she’s no one to mess with on the daytime drama. Now, check out the backstory on the lethal and loyal Dr. O.
Liesl Obrecht — General Hospital Super-Villainess
Liesl Obrecht debuted on GH in 2012 as a ruthless she-villain. She came onto the scene as a doctor in a Swiss clinic. That was when Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) searched for her daughter, Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough), in Switzerland.
Anna and her good friend Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) questioned Dr. O about Robin. But Liesl threw them off Robin’s trail to help her evil love, Cesar Faison (Anders Hove).
Of course, back then, she was madly in love with psycho Faison. And many of Obrecht’s crimes were committed out of love for the madman.
Later, it was revealed that she worked with another evil villain. Dr. O teamed up with Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) to fake the death of Katherine Bell (Mary Beth Evans).

Plus, Liesl conspired with mega-villain Jerry Jacks (Sebastian Roché) when she held Robin captive. Then, she injected Robin with a deadly neurotoxin. Indeed, it seems Obrecht worked with every villain on the General Hospital canvas.
Also, Anna was Liesl’s mortal enemy. That was because Faison was obsessed with Anna. So, Obrecht tried to eliminate the British super-spy at every turn. The love of Anna’s life was Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan). So, Dr. O often used Duke to hurt Anna.
Later, Dr. O helped her daughter Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) commit several crimes. That was back when Britt was evil like her mother. Obrecht also broke Faison out of maximum-security Steinmauer prison.
Plus, she pushed Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) off a turret at Wyndemere. And, she shot both Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Victor Cassadine (then Thaao Penghlis). One was an accident and the other to kill.
No doubt, Liesl is a baddie, but she’s a different person lately on General Hospital. Now, she seems truly reformed. And was there to comfort her daughter when she lost her new love, per GH Twitter spoilers.
Another Side to Dr. O on GH
Recently, the GH showrunners decided to show a different side of the devious Liesl Obrecht. Although she is still capable of evil, her love for her family is now stronger than her darker impulses.
So, these days, Dr. O’s primary focus is being there for her loved ones and keeping them safe. Of course, Obrecht still does evil things.
But now, it’s out of the goodness of her heart. Like when she tortured and almost killed Peter August (Wes Ramsey). Fans will recall that Peter was responsible for the death of Liesl’s son, Nathan West (Ryan Paevey).

So, she made him pay. Also, Obrecht is finally a good mother to Britt, who has also turned her life around. Besides that, we now get to see her in love and in a healthy relationship with Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner).
Although Scotty is currently off the General Hospital canvas, he’ll most likely be back at some point for his “schnitzel.” So, while Obrecht was dark and violent for many years, she’s now more of a lovable villain. And she is a favorite among fans.
Obrecht a Fan-Fave on General Hospital
GH fans love Liesl Obrecht. She’s a villainess with a heart of gold. Plus, she’s pretty hilarious. Obrecht’s wit and one-liners crack fans up, especially when paired with legacy character Anna.
Of course, Anna and Dr. O used to be enemies. But they actually get along now and are often on the same side. Surely, fans won’t forget when Obrecht brought Anna to a rage room where they took out their anger on random objects.
Or when she got drunk on the Haunted Star and was pushed into the harbor. Most viewers love Dr. O and hope she never leaves. Liesl Obrecht is a force to be reckoned with on GH. So, tune in every day to see the entertaining Dr. O in action on the ABC sudser.
