What Season Did Whitney Thore Get Engaged on My Big Fat Fabulous Life?

Over the course of nine seasons of MBFFL, Whitney Way Thore explored several romantic opportunities. Season 1 started with how her viral Fat Girl Dancing video launched her into social media fame and then a reality TV show. That season was a lot about self-acceptance, body image, and her weight struggle.

In Season 2 and 3, there was more about Whitney’s health struggle but then the reality storyline veered over to romance and My Big Fat Fabulous Life viewers met artist Lennie Alehat. They dated for about a year, but it didn’t work out. Her love interest, Lennie, appeared on seasons two through four of the TLC show.

Next came Avi Lang who dated Whitney from late 2016 through Spring 2017. She seemed to hope for an engagement to Avi.  That’s because she tried on wedding dresses while they dated. It should have been a red flag when he would not appear on-camera in season 4 of My Big Fat Fabulous Life. And with good reason.

However, Avi couldn’t propose to Whitney because he already had a fiancée. And apparently, she and the woman he planned to marry weren’t enough for Avi. Because he had another 10 (or more) ladies on the side as well, Whitney Thore said on My Big Fat Fabulous Life. So, she came out of seasons one through five with no ring on her finger.

Buddy Bell Destined for His Bestie on MBFFL? Some Fans Think So

While Whitney Thore’s mostly been pursuing other men during the seasons of My Big Fat Fabulous Life, there was always (mostly) stalwart Buddy Bell. They were friends without benefits who flirted but never acted on it. She stood by her best friend when he struggled with drug addiction. That plotline featured in the TLC show’s season 5.

Buddy relocated back to D.C. in Season 6, but he and Whitney sparked with a passionate kiss at the end of season 6. His past with their mutual friend Heather complicated any romance between them. In the end, love wasn’t in the cards. So Whitney definitely was never engaged to Buddy Bell on My Big Fat Fabulous Life.

It would be on Season 7 of MBFFL that fans met Whitney’s first fiancé, Chase Severino. Her business partner in NO BS Active, Ryan Andreas, introduced her to his friend Chase. Their blossoming romance consumed most of that season. However, many viewers considered it a “fauxmance” and didn’t buy it.

Season 7’s penultimate episode of My Big Fat Fabulous Life saw Chase propose at the top of the Eiffel tower in Paris. That’s very romantic. And the season finale featured a joyful celebration of their engagement with friends and family. However, disaster was lurking, leaving many asking what’s Whitney Thore’s engagement status.

Is Whitney Thore Still Engaged?

Season 8 picked up with Whitney still engaged to Chase Severino and happily planning her wedding. She refused to move in with him. Then, the isolation of the coronavirus quarantine hit. Finally, her fiancé floored her with the news he was having a baby with another woman. That spilled early in the season and her heartbreak consumed the ensuing episodes.

By season’s end of My Big Fat Fabulous Life, Chase introduced his baby, Aurora Joyce Severino, to Whitney Thore via video call. That seemed to reopen old wounds because she was looking forward to starting a family soon after they wed. As of this writing Chase Severino is still with Sara Jackson, the mother of his child.

As for Whitney, in Season 9, she was back on her search for love. This time, she’s pursuing her French tutor. Soap Dirt reported her Frenchman is an aspiring rapper, named Naïl Rayner. She met him online but he refused to appear on camera. However, many viewers wonder if he’s a set-up rather than a legit suitor. He’s reportedly a videographer in Paris.

With her getting engaged in Paris on My Big Fat Fabulous Life last season, might Naïl have been local crew working on the show? Some guess it might be another romance-for-reality TV. Or perhaps they sparked on set. Or they truly met online. Only they know the truth. As of this moment, the answer to the question – is Whitney Thore still engaged – is no.
