‘Bold and the Beautiful’ Writers Goof: Steffy Names Baby After Abuser – Why?

Bold and the Beautiful spoilers say Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) wants to honor her mom naming her newborn after her – but it appears she chose unwisely. Or at least that’s what many veteran B&B fans see after watching this CBS soap for years. It appears she named baby Hayes after one of her mother’s husbands who was a violent stalker.

Bold and the Beautiful Spoilers: How Does Steffy Forrester Fix This?

Fans watched last week as Steffy and John Finnegan “Finn” (Tanner Novlan) discussed their newborn baby’s name a couple of times. First, they decided on a name to honor Steffy’s mom. That’s Taylor Hayes (Hunter Tylo), whom Steffy Forrester said wanted hourly pics of her new grandson.

Bold and the Beautiful viewers thought by now that Taylor would fly in to meet her new grandson. But Steffy definitely kept her in the loop. She also wanted to honor her mom’s side of the family with the name they give their baby, Hayes. Next, she wanted to add Forrester to Finnegan, dubbing their newborn Hayes Forrester-Finnegan. As one might expect, the good doc was fine with his son’s three names.

Finn was agreeable to Steffy Forrester’s suggestion. He is new to the picture – so he wouldn’t know much about the origin of Taylor’s last name. On the show, she still goes by Taylor Hayes. That’s strange enough on Bold and the Beautiful. But that wasn’t always the case, as Hayes is not her surname from birth.

Hayes Not a Family Name – What are the B&B Writers Thinking?

Bold and the Beautiful fans who’ve been around for a long time immediately jumped on the new baby’s name. Taylor Hayes was born Taylor Hamilton. The name came from her first husband, Blake Hayes (Peter Brown). This guy was not only abusive but a stalker as well. Back in the day, he gave Taylor a horrific time.

Bold and the Beautiful scripted this guy with a medical condition that caused him to break out in violence. This was the foundation for Taylor’s divorce from Blake, who hopped on over to Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye). Blake stalked Taylor, even getting an apartment across the street from hers to spy on her.

At one point, Taylor’s horrid hubby teamed up with Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) to target Taylor. That’s because Brooke wanted Ridge so they worked to split them so he could get Taylor back in his life. Yes, it was one of those Bold and the Beautiful spider webs, the story of Taylor and Blake.

It wasn’t a good story either, so you can understand why fans questioned Steffy Forrester’s decision to name her son after the man who caused an awful time in her mom’s life. Plus, Steffy’s mother was never married to Mr. Hayes on the show. He was introduced as her ex-hubby. And a truly awful guy to boot. He was violent on the show – and once beat her dad severely…

Bold and the Beautiful Spoilers: Wouldn’t Steffy Know This?

It seems this might be an error on the part of writers – according to longtime B&B fans. You would think as soon as Ridge heard the name Hayes, he’d say something. Although he did hesitate a minute when Steffy Forrester presented the name. But maybe because at the time she was only honoring her mother’s name. She decided on Forrester a few days later.

It’s strange in itself that Bold and the Beautiful still has Taylor using the last name of a man who tormented her. Why not her maiden name – or Forrester, the last name of her children? Of course, Steffy Forrester wouldn’t know about Taylor’s stalker ex first hand. She wasn’t around during these years.

But she might have heard about it from her mom or someone else. Blake Hayes’ role lasted from 1991-1992. Steffy was born in 1999 but fast-soap aging made Steffy an adult in 2008 with Jacqueline playing that role as a grown-up Steffy Forrester since then. But dropping Taylor’s ex-hubby’s last name into the mix honors a violent stalker – not her mom, right?

You would think Steffy Forrester would know the family history by now. Then, of course, there’s Brooke, who would love to tell Steffy she made an error when naming her son after her mother’s abusive ex. So, today everyone on Bold and the Beautiful coos over baby Hayes Finnegan. But you would think someone would suggest to Steffy Forrester she might want to rethink her baby’s name.

So, this begs the question of who in the writer’s room at B&B thought this name was a good idea. Was it a newer writer that doesn’t know the history? Or an established writer that thought fans forgot the past? After all, Jacqui’s just reading the lines she’s given as Steffy Forrester . The blame for this odd naming choice rests where the writers sit. Hayes was a scary man who hurt her mom – period.
