‘Big Brother’: Turner Said he Voted for Monte in Ignorance

Big Brother alum Matt Turner just revealed in an interview that his vote on finale night was “the exact opposite” of what he should have done. So, why vote for Monte Taylor instead of Taylor Hale in the end? How it happened is pretty interesting, as he revealed on a recent podcast.

Big Brother: Matt Turner Insists He Didn’t “Vote Against Taylor”

This week, BB24 third-place houseguest Matt Turner chatted up past champs Derrick Levasseur and Cody Calafiore on their podcast The Winners Circle. Funnily enough, Cody found out the BB24 alum can’t pronounce his last name, mangling it to sound more like “California”.

For those that don’t know, it’s pronounced “Cala-Fury”. With that cleared up, the two Big Brother past champions (Seasons 16 and 22) had some questions for thrift shop owner Matt Turner about his finale night vote.

Turner said after he was evicted, he thought for sure that Monte Taylor was going to win. Why? Because, he said, “in other seasons, it seems like the person who wins is the person who won the most comps.” Plus, he said that “a lot of people love Monte.”

As to whether he was upset at being voted out in third, Turner said he wasn’t mad because it was “what he thought he had to do.” Also, Turner wanted it known that he didn’t “vote against Taylor” as Big Brother winner. He had a specific reason for voting as he did. But what was it?

The Winners Circle Host Asks Why He Voted for Monte – It was in Ignorance

It looks like Matt Turner’s sole vote for Monte was made in ignorance. Derrick asked him, “What ultimately made you vote for Monte over Taylor — what made you go the other way” from the rest of the jury.”

First, he reminded the two hosts that he didn’t get to be part of the jury round table when everyone apparently made up their minds. After he was evicted, he was held offstage, then brought onstage to sit with the Big Brother jury members.

Second, Turner said he tried to determine how everyone else was voting. Between him coming out and when they’d vote, there was an ad break. He said, “In the commercial break, I was like — where are you guys voting.”

But he told the podcasters that they wouldn’t say. The jury members were unsure if they could say, so they stayed mum. He says, “”I was like — oh my God, great…” He said, “I voted to not be on the wrong side of the vote.”

And Turner didn’t want to be a bitter juror. So, he wanted to vote one last time with the rest of the Big Brother house. He assumed they were also voting for Monte. So, it sounds like had he not been ignorant of how the rest were voting, he’d also have voted for Taylor Hale to win BB24.

Turner said, despite Taylor’s strong speech, he’s certain the jury decided beforehand at the roundtable. Derrick admitted that simply based on BB24 editing, he didn’t expect her to get the win from the jury either.

Turner Addresses Sending out Michael from Big Brother

Another hot topic for Matt Turner is the anger he took from Michael Bruner over his eviction. They asked him about that moment. You can listen to the whole interview here. Like so many past Big Brother houseguests, he talked about gameplay versus personal feelings.

Turner said it’s hard to know the “best route to take” and pitting “game moves against personal moves”. After targeting comp beast Michael earlier in the season, he said he came to the realization that he shouldn’t.

He said he later told Michael. He didn’t want to be the one to send “the only other LQBTQ” houseguest out of the house. And he “really likes Michael personally”. But he said Monte using the veto took him “off guard” on Big Brother.

He said he had to decide on the spot to either put up a close ally or “make a big game move.” And he said he’d look like “an awful player” if he didn’t make the resume-building move. But, Matt Turner said, “it weighed heavy on my heart for weeks afterward.”
