Amy Slaton & Michael Halterman BOTH Get Restraining Orders? ‘1000-Lb Sisters’ Exclusive

The 1000-Lb Sisters star Amy Slaton made headlines for her divorce from Michael Halterman and now he wants a two-way restraining order. Their split has been a topic of conversation since it was first reported.

Last month, Amy filed a protective order against Michael. However, Soap Dirt recently revealed that the situation is more complicated than previously thought, with both parties seeking a restraining order against each other.

1000-Lb Sisters: Amy Slaton Gets Emergency Protective Order (EPO)

Michael Halterman filed a divorce petition listing Amy Slaton as the respondent on March 13, 2023. But leading up to that was a bitter fight where the police were called.

The 1000-Lb Sisters couple were arguing about their split. That was on Friday, February 24, 2023, in the early afternoon. Things got contentious and Amy Halterman dialed 911 and the police came.

Four days later, on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, she filed for an emergency protective order against her husband. That order was granted and will last or six months until August 28, 2023, unless it’s shot down.

Now, Michael’s asked the court for a mutual restraining order that would limit the actions of himself, and his 1000-Lb Sisters estranged spouse. Here’s the exclusive from the court documents we obtained.

Michael Halterman Asks for Mutual Restraining Order & Gag Order

Now, according to court documents obtained by Soap Dirt, Michael Halterman is asking that the court approve a motion asking for very specific limitations. Here’s the rundown on this motion for temporary relief.

The motion asks that Amy and her estranged hubby remain at least 500 feet away from each other at all times. It further asks for a ban on any public statements or social media postings concerning each other or the ongoing litigation of their divorce.

What’s interesting about the restraining order is that it was not part of the initial divorce petition filed by Michael. Instead, it was filed separately but on the same date.

In her EPO, Amy requested that Michael only be allowed supervised visits with their children, which contradicts the joint custody he’s asking for in their main divorce petition.

This indicates that the two have very different views on how the custody of their children should be handled. The motion for relief also addresses assets and money held by the 1000-Lb Sisters estranged couple.

1000-Lb Sisters: Michael Wants Asset Hold – Says Both Unemployed!

One interesting thing is that in the main divorce petition, Michael Halterman says he’s unemployed. And it also says he “believes” that Amy Slaton also has no job. So, is that some sort of spoiler that Amy’s not filming another season for TLC?

Overall, the 1000-Lb Sisters‘ legal battle is a relatively simple filing as far as divorces go. The divorce petition is a page and a half long as is the request for a mutual TRO.

It looks like things might get more contentious as he seeks to have Amy’s EPO stricken and replaced with one that affects them both and includes a gag order against dissing the other.

In addition to the mutual restraining order and gag order on social media, Michael’s petition addresses their finances. The motion asks that the court block any “dissipation” (i.e., squandering) of their assets.

We assume that Amy Slaton’s 1000-Lb Sisters paycheck is part of that. The motion wants the court to bar both from closing any bank accounts.

And it seeks a ban on using assets or property as collateral for new debt. In other words, he’s asking that neither of them can use the home to get a second mortgage or a line of credit.

1000-LB Sisters Exclusive: Michael vs. Amy Restraining Orders Slated for May

Soap Dirt called the court. We asked if the court approved Michael Halterman’s request for a two-way restraining order. To date, the court hasn’t approved it. But not because a judge rejected it.

Instead, the 1000-Lb Sisters spouses will face off on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. That’s the hearing date set. The court scheduled the original hearing on March 22, 2023. But now there is a delay by a few weeks.

If the court approves the motion, there will be restraining orders against each other. Also, it’s important to note one thing. Union County shows no criminal charges against Michael. That’s despite Amy calling the police to their home.

And as for Amy Slaton’s EPO (emergency protective order), that’s relatively easy to get. So, that’s not necessarily an indication that he did anything wrong. If you’ve navigated a split, you know arguments can get heated.

We will follow up on the 1000-Lb Sisters legal matter when it hits the courthouse in May and let you know if Michael Halterman got his way. Will he and Amy Slaton both have restraining orders against them soon? We’ll see.
