‘When Calls The Heart’: Elizabeth Thornton Picks Her Next Love

When Calls The Heart widow Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow) finally decided which man would be for her lifetime. Plus, the town said goodbye to several of its’ members. The season finale of the hit Hallmark frontier show leaves fans on edge with several potential romances too.

When Calls The Heart: Lucas Bouchard Gets Kisses from Elizabeth Thornton

When Calls The Heart’s schoolteacher Elizabeth Thornton finally realized it was time to move on from her late husband. She has been torn between two men, Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) and Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry), for some time. While Nathan professed his love for her, Elizabeth never denied her feelings for him. Lucas, on the other hand, had not yet told her how he feels. Elizabeth finally removed her wedding ring before she spoke of her feelings to her two suitors.

But in the last episode of Season 8 of When Calls The Heart, Elizabeth Thornton realized her love for Nathan was an extension of her love for her husband. She said she loves Nathan, but she’s not in love with him. Although, she said she couldn’t imagine a more courageous, selfless, good man to look out for her since her husband’s death.

Lucas Bouchard drove out of town before Elizabeth Thornton could speak with him. She appeared devastated, running down the street. Elizabeth stood at the bridge over the water where she and Lucas stood before, looking shattered. When Lucas appeared behind Elizabeth, they ran into each other’s arms and kissed on When Calls The Heart.

WCTH: Nathan Accepts His Rejection

Nathan Grant, valiant Constable of Hope Valley on When Calls The Heart, merely nodded when Elizabeth confessed she was not in love with him. Elizabeth Thornton said it wasn’t fair to look at him as a replacement for Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). Elizabeth left the Mountie office, walking with a purpose down the street. Nathan had a reason to be in her life, and he would always be important to her, she thought as she walked away.

Elizabeth Thornton of When Calls The Heart said Nathan wasn’t her lifetime, nor was she his. But she hoped they could have a deep abiding friendship. Her final words to Nathan were that she’d always think he was impeccable. Nathan Grant finds Lucas Bouchard at the saloon on WCTH just as he was closing. The two rivals spoke over a few drinks. Nathan revealed Elizabeth’s affections for him. But Lucas surprised him by saying he’d had an offer on the saloon and was thinking of taking it. Nathan encouraged him to stay around Hope Valley.

Meanwhile, on When Calls The Heart, Lucas said goodbye to Henry Gowen (Martin Cummins), who said he was trying to figure out what really mattered as he drove off with a last glance at Abigail’s Cafe. Elizabeth Thornton was the first to see Jesse Flynn (Aren Buchholz) return to town after being lost in the woods. Jesse and his wife Clara Stanton (Eva Allen) left town almost immediately for a second honeymoon. And finally, Dr. Carson Shepherd (Paul Greene) left Hope Valley to study at Johns Hopkins with the entire town looking on.

When Calls The Heart: Elizabeth Sets Stage for Romance

Elizabeth Thornton set an elaborate scene for Lucas Bouchard after they revealed their hearts to each other on When Calls The Heart. Elizabeth tried to send a note earlier to Lucas, but he’d already left town. After dark, Lucas arrived at the library to see a sign that it was closed for a private reading by an author.

Elizabeth Thornton’s manuscript arrived, and she set the scene in the library with candles and champagne as she told Lucas how she felt about him, pretending she was speaking of her book. Elizabeth said she was reading from her heart, writing a love story about a patient, kind, thoughtful, and adoring man. Lucas rejoined with his side of the love story, falling for a woman who is true, selfless, sweet, beautiful, and dear on When Calls The Heart.

However, Lucas and Elizabeth Thornton’s love story isn’t the only potential romance in Hope Valley. The season ended with Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) asking Molly Sullivan (Johannah Newmarch) for coffee. Fiona Miller (Kayla Wallace) rides off on a motorcycle with Mike Hickam (Ben Rosenbaum). And Nathan Grant and Faith Carter (Andrea Brooks) have an intense discussion about their lost loves as she doctors his hand. Some Hearties are ecstatic over Elizabeth’s choice, although Team Nathan fans seem disappointed on Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart.
