‘Welcome to Plathville’: Lydia Plath Preparing to Leave Her Family?

Recently, Welcome to Plathville star Lydia Plath spent the teaching her younger sister Amber how to cook in preparation for the day when she would leave the household. Does Lydia Plath already have a plan?

Welcome to Plathville: Responsibilities for Lydia Plath

The Welcome to Plathville family lived on a farm in rural Georgia on the first season of the show. Kim and Barry Plath had nine children and raised them in a very sheltered lifestyle. They restricted their kids’ access to technology and the outside world. Their eldest son and daughter both married and moved out. Fans watched as the next oldest two, Moriah and Micah Plath rebelled against their parents. And their restricted lifestyle. But Lydia Plath seemed to love it. And Lydia got caught in the middle because she could, “see both side” of the family’s conflict.

When the second season began, both Moriah Plath and Micah had moved out. So, Lydia Plath is the oldest daughter still living at home in the Welcome to Plathville home. But, even before her older brothers and sister moved out, Lydia was in charge of most of the household chores. She did all the cooking for the family of eleven. And Lydia Plath also did the vast majority of the cleaning. Even though there’s plenty of other people that could help out, the rest of the clan was happy to leave it all for Lydia.

Lydia Gains Independence

Lydia Plath seemed to have grown a lot between the first and second season of Welcome to Plathville. While she was still caught in the middle of the family divide, she did her best to maintain good relationships with her ousted siblings. And Lydia Plath even convinced her parents to let her spend an evening at Moriah’s house. Moriah and Lydia talked about boys and Lydia Plath admitted that she had a crush. But that she didn’t want her parents to know. Fans were glad to see that she had started to get a life of her own.

Then, Lydia Plath asked her Welcome to Plathville parents if she could get a cellphone. Kim and husband Barry Plath were skeptical about why she needed one. They didn’t want her to be able to have free access to internet. And they felt that some of the older siblings were a bad influence. But, she persisted and said she wanted to be able to make phone calls and text with Micah and Moriah. And that she might be able to help repair the rift with the older kids. Kim Plath said that a basic phone with no internet capabilities might be fine.

Welcome to Plathville: Will Another Plath Child Fly the Coop?

In a Welcome to Plathville leak, Lydia Plath talked to her younger sister Amber. She spent time with Amber and involved her in the cooking and baking. While the two worked in the kitchen, Amber Plath continued to complain about it. Lydia said that Amber needed to take on more responsibility and learn to do more cooking and cleaning. Amber said that she didn’t like to do it and asked why she needed to, when she had her older sister around to do it for her.

And Lydia Plath said that she wouldn’t be around forever. So, Amber needed to be prepared for the time when Lydia wasn’t around anymore. Amber didn’t seem to take her seriously. But, Lydia insisted that she didn’t want to live in the Welcome to Plathville household for much longer. And that she wanted to get married and have her own life. Does Lydia Plath already have a timeline for her plan to leave? Or is she just thinking ahead to the future that she wants?
