‘Sister Wives’: Meri Brown Stuns with Twist in New Season

Sister Wives Meri Brown starts off in Season 17 with something that doesn’t seem consistent with what she’s said and done over the years. It has nothing to do with her shared husband Kody Brown. No, this time she’s raising a few eyebrows with her sadness over events unfolding on the TLC reality series.

Sister Wives: Meri Brown Not an Easy Friend?

Die-hard fans of Meri Brown know how she interacts with her co-wives. It’s obvious that she gets along with Robyn Brown the best. Janelle Brown and Meri Brown never made their disdain for each other a secret on Sister Wives.

At one point a while back the two of them shared how they can’t ride in a car together. Christine Brown and Meri Brown have goofed off together at family events.

During a picnic, the two wrestled to the ground. But they both got up smiling and laughing it off. Still, they seemed to share a mutual animosity towards each other on and off through the years.

Sister Wives: Meri Brown

Christine didn’t like the way the original Sister Wives matriarch treated her for a sizable portion of their life together. In a more recent season, Christine talked about being the basement wife when they lived in Utah in a shared house. This was long before Robyn entered the family.

Battles of the Past

Meri’s apartment offered the only path inside the house for Christine and Janelle to get to each other’s apartment. They, as well as their kids, had to go through the first wife’s place to get to the other side of the house. If not, they would need to get dressed and go outside.

Meri stopped that. She made her place off limits to traffic. So even in the most inclement weather Janelle and Christine’s kids would need to go outside.

They’d access each other’s apartments that way. Plus, there were numerous stories about the first wife wanting things her way. So, it didn’t sound like there was too much love lost between Meri and these two co-wives. But now with Christine departing it does.

Sister Wives: Meri’s New Fondness?

Meri Brown becoming upset over Christine leaving is understandable. Whether they got along good, bad, or indifferent, they were still very much part of each other’s lives.

But it was what the first wife has to say in the Sister Wives‘ Season 17 trailer that confuses the issue. She said that she not only thinks of Christine as her sister wife but as a friend as well. But she worded it differently. She said she felt like she was “a friend for a lot of years.”

So, it sounds as if there was a time when the two were friends. Meri surprised the fans when she tried to calm down Christine in an episode from one of the last few seasons.

She got up and followed her Sister Wives co-wife as she left the group crying. Meri Brown trying to calm her co-wife didn’t fit the narrative fans heard throughout the seasons.

They thought the two had very little to do with each another. Even Kody Brown lambasted his first bride for the way she treated the other women in this plural marriage. One of the contingencies he gave Meri when she asked what she could do to win him back had to do with the other wives.

Kody told Meri Brown that she needed to work on getting along with her co-wives before he might someday consider a reboot of their marriage. So, it sounded as if the friction between Meri and the other wives was an ongoing thing.

But this season Meri cries over Christine’s departure. So, it will be interesting for the fans to see how it all builds up to this in the new season. Sister Wives Season 17 rolls out on Sunday, September 11 on TLC.
