‘Married at First Sight’: Pastor Cal Slams Virginia Coombs Party Ways as Unfit

Married at First Sight newlywed Virginia Coombs is well-known to fans for her apparent drinking and social lifestyle. She made no secret of the fact that she goes out drinking with her friends every weekend. During the wedding, Virginia was shown drinking during the prep phase and going back to the bar repeatedly after the ceremony. Pastor Cal Roberson thinks her partying ways are unfit for a good marriage.

Married at First Sight: Virginia Coombs Justifies Her Behavior

Virginia speaks to viewers of Married at First Sight and says that her extroverted, fun-loving ways are not just a phase like Erik thinks. That’s her personality, and it’s not going to change. Cal met with Virginia Coombs and her husband Erik Lake to see how their relationship was evolving.

They confirmed to Lifetime’s Married at First Sight expert that they have consummated their relationship. Erik brought the way he feels their age and maturity levels are hurdles that have to be overcome. Erik understands where his wife is in her life, but he is past that drinking all the time age. Virginia thinks Erik is trying to control her and keep her from her friends. He wants her to text him when she gets somewhere if he’s not with her.

Also, she thinks he wants her to ask permission before she goes off without him. But Erik pointed out that she is no longer single, and it’s not appropriate for her to be married and continue to live a single lifestyle. Married at First Sight husband Erik wants her to check with him before making plans without him, as many married couples do, but Virginia sees that as asking permission. She also said the last time she texted someone when she arrived, she was 16, and it was her parents wanting the text.

Virginia Gets a Reality Check

Virginia tells expert Cal that her life before being Married at First Sight consisted of partying and drinking on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights with her buddies. Girls’ nights and guys’ nights, and just hanging out. She mentions that she often passes out on someone’s couch, usually one of her two best guy friends. And Erik is not okay with that, but Virginia thinks it shouldn’t be an issue because it’s people she knows well.

Married at First Sight Cal’s eyebrows raised when Virginia says she passes out a lot of the time. Virginia Coombs tries to justify her behavior by saying it’s not random houses she stays at. Cal straight up says that’s not ok with him. It’s the husband’s job to look after the wife. And also make sure she’s not putting herself in a situation where some “idiot” can take advantage of her.

This is what Erik Lake has been telling his wife throughout their Married at First Sight honeymoon whenever the subject came up. At Pastor Cals’ words, Virginia Coombs lost her smile, and instantly her expression sobered up. Perhaps hearing the same concern from someone else besides Erik will make Virginia rethink her habits.

Married at First Sight: Virginia Coombs Loves the Single Life

Virginia Coombs has lived a social lifestyle up until now. She told the experts she drinks every weekend, to the point that she sometimes passes out. She has friends she drinks with and sometimes sleeps on their couches if she drinks too much to drive safely. In some ways, she’s responsible as a driver, but as half of a relationship on Married at First Sight, is it acceptable behavior?

Erik thinks she is treating their relationship more as a boyfriend/girlfriend situation than as a marriage. He seems more than willing to make concessions and compromise. Virginia Coombs comes off as more rigid and unyielding. Her response to his allergic reaction to cats is that he can take allergy medicine for the rest of his life. Will this Lifetime experiment of being Married at First Sight be successful for this couple?

At Erik’s apartment, the Married at First Sight wife said they’d sell it and get a different place more to her taste. He replied that his next purchase would probably be a house. His wife responded they’d have to talk about that. Erik appears ready to compromise to make this marriage work but is Virginia Coombs mature enough to do the same?
