Counting On alum Jill Duggar Dillard recently shared a rather generic post that brought fans back to Michelle Duggar around her dining room table. The viewers of Counting On and their original show, 19 Kids and Counting, didn’t have the Duggar’s cooking in mind. No, what Jill Duggar had to share drew attention to the education of the now-adult Duggar kids.
Counting On: Jill Duggar Dillard Rejects the Old – Rings In the New
Jim Bob Duggar and his wife, Michelle Duggar, became famous for their parenting techniques as they raised their 19 kids. Those techniques were old-school and often extremely controversial. Some of these traditions seeped into the next Counting On generation.
The Counting On stars never attended school outside the house. Michelle Duggar home-schooled all their children. Many of the grown children tend to follow the Duggar traditions that they grew up with.
Some of the adult kids continued with the modest mode of dress even after creating their own family. But when it comes to homeschooling there’s a rebel in the bunch.
Jill Duggar recently announced that she enrolled her son, Israel, in a public school for kindergarten. While that conjured up a few comments about her rebellious nature, it also got her a lot of kudos from Counting On fans for putting her son in school. That’s because fans don’t think the now grown Duggar kids got the best education around the family’s table.
Michelle Duggar Teaching Methods
So Counting On enthusiasts are happy to hear Jill Duggar is about to break with the homeschooling tradition. But it wasn’t enough to just say this. No, some fans needed to go back and collect the evidence as to why it’s a good thing.
The die-hard Counting On viewers watched the now-adult stars in their last show when they were just kids. 19 Kids and Counting showed Michelle Duggar giving the school lessons to her kids around the table in their dining room.
Back then fans watched as Michelle doled out a lesson for a group of her kids around the family’s table. What seemed odd about this scene was the many different age groups all sitting around that table to learn the same thing. The young kids and older kids sat around this table as Michelle Duggar taught them the same lesson.
Fans saw this as rather odd, after all, that’s why public schools offer eight grades and then another four through high school. Education is progressive, you learn a little more each year. But that didn’t seem to happen around Michelle Duggar’s table.
Counting On: Fans Point Out the Problems
It didn’t take long for fans of the Counting On show to point to the problems of homeschooling. Especially because they see so many examples across the social media platforms from the adult Duggar kids.
Josiah Duggar shared a post recently and the fans took notice. While he celebrated the two year anniversary of the date he proposed to Lauren, for the Duggar fans, it was something else that stood out.
Counting On followers couldn’t get over the example of poor grammar this post demonstrated. Some fans pointed out how Josiah used a rather simple language and others thought he didn’t have much experience with composition when it comes to the English language.
It seems fans of the older Counting On kids believe the Duggar brood didn’t get an educational advance from homeschooling. Or at least some of the viewers of the TLC show think this is the case. So when Jill decided to break the cycle and send her son to public school, fans found this something to celebrate.
