Since 1973, Y&R began airing on CBS weekdays. For seven years, it ran as a 30-minute serial. Then, it expanded to one-hour seven years later.

So, Lee Phillip Bell and her husband, William J. Bell, created Young and the Restless. From the start, it’s been set in the make-believe town of Genoa City, Wisconsin.

First, one of the legacy families is the Newman clan, headed by Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Second, the other legacy clan on Young and the Restless are the Abbotts, led by Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

These two extensive families make up the fabric of Genoa City. Now, many of the Newmans reside on “The Ranch.” It’s an expansive property with a main house and several smaller houses, stables, and grounds.

Meanwhile, the Abbotts often congregate at the Abbott mansion, built by John Abbott, the patriarch who passed away years ago on Young and the Restless.

Today, the third family, the Chancellors, have fewer members represented on Young and the Restless. But they remain a core presence as many scenes tape at the Chancellor mansion, once home to Kay Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper).

The plotlines on Young and the Restless often involve corporate intrigue at family companies. Now, these include Newman Enterprises and Jabot, owned by the Abbotts.
