Abigail Deveraux’s Long Journey Back from Madness on ‘Days of our Lives’
Abigail Deveraux (Marci Miller) may seem like a woman who has it all together on Days of our Lives. However, it wasn’t all wine and roses.
Abigail has struggled with mental illness for years. Here’s a look back at her descent into madness. And, how Abby fought her way back.
Abigail Deveraux’s Paternity Fiasco Causes PTSD on Days of our Lives
Several years ago on DOOL, Abigail Deveraux, then played by Kate Mansi, dated Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson). But she still had eyes for Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn).
Abigail discovered she was pregnant with her son Thomas. Since she’d been having an affair with Chad while seeing Ben, she had no idea who the father was.
Abby’s aunt, Dr. Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans), recommended a paternity test. When she was far enough along, they used Chad’s DNA from his hospital records.
However, Clyde Weston (James Reed) caught wind of the test and her fling. So, he changed the results to make it look like Ben was the father.
It was only a matter of time on Days of our Lives before Ben uncovers the truth. He learns his pregnant girlfriend, Abigail Deveraux, cheated on him with Chad.
Ben snaps and kills his first victim, Serena Mason (Melissa Archer) with the infamous red necktie.
And this frames Chad in the process. The murders of Paige Larson (True O’Brien) and Will Horton (Chandler Massey) shortly follow.
It was then on DOOL Abigail Deveraux realized Ben is the Necktie Killer. Held hostage at the cabin, she goes into labor.
Ben names him Colin before killing the midwife he hired. Meanwhile, back in Salem, Chad’s name is cleared. Chaos ensues when he finds them in the woods.
Ben chains the couple on the bed, takes the baby, and sets the house on fire. Eventually, Chad frees them. After the smoke clears, the couple learns the truth about the paternity test.
With the killer, behind bars, Abigail Deveraux marries Chad. However, the nightmare caused PTSD symptoms in the new mom. She starts having hallucinations.
She agrees to admit herself into the mental institution. But the visions didn’t stop. She sets fires in the hospital and runs away.
DOOL’s Andre DiMera Assists in the Fake Death
On the lam, frightened Abigail Deveraux conspires with her brother-in-law, Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis), to fake her death. She feels Chad and Thomas would be better off without her around.
But Andre turns Abigail over to her psychiatrist grandmother, Laura Horton (Jaime Lyn Bauer). Grandma Laura secretly treats her granddaughter for PTSD, per Days of our Lives archives.
After many months of treatment, Abby returns as a whole new person. Literally. Enter Marci Miller as DOOL’s Abigal Deveraux. But she was only in town because she heard her brother J.J. Deveraux (Casey Moss) had been shot.
Their mother kept her hidden away until she felt she was ready to face her husband, son, and the rest of Salem. But, in her absence, Chad grew closer to her BFF Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus).

However, Abigail Deveraux gave them time to work through their feelings. Plus, they thought she was dead all this time. Eventually, he chooses the mother of his child.
Yet, before they can renew their vows, Deimos Kiriakis (Vincent Irizarry) kidnaps Gabi and Abby. The evildoer poisons them. Further, Deimos forces Chad to choose which woman to give the antidote to.
Noble Chad finds a way to give each woman the cure. But Abigail Devereaux won’t stand for her man to still have feelings for Gabi. She decides to dump him after all.
The road to happiness is a long one for the couple. He blames her for letting him believe she was dead. But Andre backs her up. How ironic she later kills her dashing brother-in-law.
Days of our Lives: The Three Faces of Abigail
The killing of Andre DiMera on DOOL was quite a shock in Salem. It took a long time before anyone put the pieces together. Abigail Devereaux had dissociative identity disorder. Not only did she host her own personality, but she also developed two others: Gabby and Dr. Laura.
It was the dark hair, wigged woman who not only killed Andre. And seduced Stefan DiMera (Tyler Christopher and Brandon Barash). When it suited the situation, Abigail Deveraux would slip into a seductress with a bad girl side.
In fact, there’s another “who’s the daddy” moment when she gets pregnant with Charlotte. The Dr. Laura personality kept tabs on both Abby and Gabby.
Rather than serving prison time for the murder, Ms. Deveraux is again sent away for mental health treatment. With a combination of counseling and medications, she’s able to regain her life back.
But, since then, both Gabi Hernandez and her older sister Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien) use her mental illness against her to get what they want on Days of our Lives.
So, Abigail Deveraux continues to work on herself to be the best wife and mother she can be. Even if that includes taking a mental health break from her loved ones.
