Michael Files Divorce Petition — Here’s What it Says

1000-Lb Sisters co-star Michael lists in his petition that he’s 40 and his home in Sturgis, Kentucky. We believe he’s still in the family home. Interestingly, the document states that he is not currently employed. It also contains a couple of odd typos — once referring to Michael as “she”.

And the divorce petition states that Amy is 35 years old and lists her address as “believed to be” in Morganfield, Kentucky. This is a little surprising, given that he should know her address, especially since she has their children.

The document confirms that Amy was born in Indiana but had been residing in Kentucky for 180 days prior to the filing. However, it is noteworthy that Michael does not know the social security number of his 1000-Lb Sisters wife.

Another interesting aspect of the divorce petition is that Amy is “not believed to be employed.” This suggests the filming of the TLC reality TV show might be at an end. However, it is also possible that this was just a mistake in the legal document.

Also, you’ll not the glaring typo — one of several in the legal documents…

The petition confirms that Amy and Michael married on March 15th, 2019, and separated on February 24, 2023. That’s the day that Amy called the police after Michael allegedly got violent during an argument about the breakup of their marriage.

It also reveals that Amy from 1000-Lb Sisters has an emergency protective order (EPO) in effect between the parties. The document confirms that the couple has two minor children. She has temporary custody of them, but he asked for joint custody in the legal papers.

Michael Asks Court for Two-Way Restraining Order

There’s an additional motion Michael Halterman filed with the divorce petition, It’s a motion for temporary relief. It was originally set to be heard in Union Family Court on March 22nd. Now, though, that hearing will be in May 2023.

This document outlines specific requests made by Michael Halterman regarding the time their divorce case lingers in the courts. One of the most significant aspects of the motion is the request for a mutual civil restraining order between the parties.

The 1000-Lb Sisters’ husband asks in this motion for the parties to remain 500 feet from each other at all times. The petition also asks that the judge ban any public statements or social media postings concerning the litigation or each another.

If the motion’s approved, they must also remain at least 500 feet from each other’s residences during the pendency of the action, except where needed to recover personal property.

The motion also asks that any communication between them must be through their attorneys or through the use of a court-approved app. It sounds like communication between Amy and her estranged husband Michael may be strained…

The motion in the 1000-Lb Sisters‘ divorce case also includes a section that aims to prevent either party from draining bank accounts, closing them, or using their joint property as collateral for new debt.

It’s important to note that the judge doesn’t have to approve the whole motion and her attorneys might file something to fight it. So, it remains to be seen what parts of the motion might be approved by the court.

It’s clear from the divorce petition and the motion for temporary relief that there are a lot of issues Amy Slaton’s facing with Michael Halterman.

There’s no talk of spousal support or child support in the petition he filed against the 1000-Lb Sisters star. With him unemployed and her a reality TV breadwinner, this could get messy…

That’s it — everything from the Michael Halterman versus Amy Slaton divorce. The petition is short — just a page and a half. And the motion for temporary relief is equally brief. We’ll update you here if the court approves the mutual restraining orders…
